So for once I'm actually making a post about something I think it would be fun to discuss rather then some problem I'm having :p I've noticed that how dark or bright the cymbals are partially dictate how dark or bright the guitar tone has to be. And on some recordings the drums and guitar just fit in this perfect space and complement each other so well, then everything just sparkles and sounds magical, although its not often I hear a record like this. I love roomy live sounding sounding drums and guitar that fit so nicely together. Any other observations you guys have about drum and guitar interaction? Any specific songs you think really nail this?

I think you're right on the mark with the overheads and guitars having a similar brightness. It definitely sounds "right" to my ears when they're sizzling the same way.

interesting point, i just thought about a similar topic a few weeks ago..do u mean they should complement each other to get the full range (dark cymbals --> bright guitars and vice versa) or do u mean they should be in the same area to have a similar colour like cobhc said above?
