Guitar Center question from a euro guy

Really? How come, and is that a company-wide policy now?
Basically, for GC to have a lot of wiggle room with price - the listed retail in the store would be higher. This allowed them to "cut deals". Now, their idea is to compete with the whole internet - low price guarentee type thing. I think they'll still work with people buying lots of stuff, but yeah they don't negoiate anymore.

+1, I have heard the same...

I'm really not a fan of guitar center at all. Most of the employees at my local GC know nothing about the products they are trying to sell. This isn't everyone, but the overwhelming majority. There are some cool cats though.

Now, I only shop at GC if I have to. A pack of strings here and there. Also, I bought my Mesa cab from them since I didn't have much of a choice in my area.

I did find a sweet RG550 there once though, nice price too.

Oh, and how's this for a mind fuck...

Back in 2001, I bought a 1983 JCM 800 2203 from them for $479!!! Now, these suckers are going for more than triple the price. I sold it, like the fool that I am.

:waah:

It's probably the reissue going for triple the price. For some reason Marshall jacked up the price of it HARDCORE. You can buy three original JCM800's for the price of one reissue :goggly:

Hey comming from an actual Guitar Center employee, yes, i am one of those douche bags.

But the price stuff is the same as online, and we'll price match anyone else then take an aditional 10% off of whatever that was. And prices are locked so sales peeps arren't allowed to take off anything of the price anymore. that's lame, i know.

but finding stuff cheaper online is easy as hell, just check out sweetwater or bring in one of their quotes and then we'll match it and give it to ya cheaper. i like it when people bring that in cause the managers practically cry because they're selling something like 20% cheaper than GLP. don't matter cause i don't even make a commission. Holla!

Guitar centre seems to be the equivalent on a larger scale of the UK's sound control, prices whatever they want on the day. I was shopping for a ibanez for a mate just starting up- I had the RG 320FM in mind for him. Upon asking how much this 320fm was, they quoted me "around 500" (me knowing full well it was 300 quids worth online!) They knew it too, jokers! Walked out of the store with it for 300 quid in the end of course :D I've been fancying a jem 7 recently, might pop in their one day this week and abuse their services before letting them know that ive ordered it online.
