I've been producing my own mixes through logic 9 (yes I know I need to upgrade) for 2 years now. I have a question however. I know as a rule most people don't like to compress rhythm guitars because it makes them sound less lively. However, it sounds to me like in a lot of modern metal, there is some compressing going on with the guitars to give them a more in your face feel. How do I achieve this? I have a great guitar tone to start with, and I quad track. They sound nice, but looking to push them a little more. I am not the best at compressing by ear so any tips on what compression settings to start with? Or even other methods to try asides from compressing?
