Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy

Sorry, but I am going to come off as a naysayer here....

How can this be called Guns N Roses?

Also, how many different people played on this?
This wasn't written or recorded as a "band".

Because it is Guns 'N Roses? Sure, its a way different band now. But they've been touring like this for years. So having Buckethead and Bumblefoot play on the album doesn't make it any less of a Guns 'N Roses album. Sure, Axl chose which of the solos he liked most, but he didn't exactly compose the solos. I'm sure that Bumblefoot, Finck, et. al. had a bit of involvement in constructing the songs.

If the band was no longer touring, then I'd probably agree that this would mostly be a 'project' album. But what does it fricking matter anyhow? You know what you are getting when/if you buy it.

Axl should have simply released it as AXL ROSE. The volumes sold would no doubt be exactly the same.

Think about it. It's the same way as Iced Earth. How can it still be called Iced Earth? Schaffer writes everything, fires and hires whoever he feels like, changed lineups 20 times in the past years. Yet he refuses to allow people to call Iced Earth his solo project, he wants it to be called a "BAND."

Also, when you have a band who released an Top 5 or Top 10 Album of all time, you better come back VERY strong.

Agreed. And Axl did. It's strong musically, and it's also a strong product. Think of the whole marketing strategy and publicity he's generated. You can't get any more attention than that, and that's great.

The delays and hype I think in the long run are going to make this extremely forgettable.

Are you serious? Dude, whether you like it or not, I think this is quite big for rock in general and the whole Chinese Democracy "saga" will not be forgotten for a while. I could be wrong though.

I know this will not be a popular opinion, as Guns N Roses seem to be held to a godlike status around here, and that is fine.

Nothing against that bro. It's similar to the status some people put Sabbath and Priest. I don't like either and will always be the "outcast". Think of how some people treat Urban Breed, Evergrey and Lance King around the forum... That's godlike status!!!

WHAT THE F@#$?? I still have not made it thru the whole D@#$ thing. Outside of the first song which is good, the rest sucks balls. I don;t understand how this has been delayed over and over...for THIS!!! Again, this album does not need to have the GNR name disgraced, it should have always been called the AXL Rose Solo Disgraceful Project. By first song, I meant the single, not the actual first song on the album either. I am trying to listen to this train wreck right now. GOOD GOD WAS F@#$ing crap this is. finally made it thru this atrocity. what a waste of 60 minutes of my life that I will never have back. I feel sorry for anyone who actually purchased this thing. It should have been called AXL ROSE DISGRACEFUL SOLO PROJECT-Chinese Democracy

Certainly some valid points made.
I guess the difference with Iced Earth is that Jon has remained active with touring and recording, even though there has been a revolving door of personnel.

Though, like I said about Corgan and the Pumpkins, Jon is the mastermind behind all things Iced Earth does in the studio.

Hey, if the G N R fans are accepting of the quality of the new release, then that is great. Though, historically, its not like Axl was the only brainchild, if you will, of the recorded output.

I agree on that. Jon has been putting out albums and touring. Axl and the new GNR had done some touring since 2000, but very little...

And yes, Axl is not the only brainchild of the older GNR stuff, but let's face it, I think he gets the absolute majority of the credit, no?

It should have been called AXL ROSE DISGRACEFUL SOLO PROJECT-Chinese Democracy

I couldn't disagree with you more, but to each their own as that's what makes music discussion great.

One thing I do want to point out is that Axl had more to do with the writing process than people realize. Slash even admits that in his excellent autobiography. I don't buy into the Axl solo album vs. GNR discussion based on the writing credits over their career. Axl took over the band's directions with the Illusion albums. Note whose name appears the most over the all the albums song writing credits:

No doubt Jasonic. Stradlin had major contributions for GNR's other 4 original music albums. If you look at the credits for these songs (check wiki), Axl wasn't the only contributors on these.

edit: Or look at the post above mine ;)

that's because Axl writes pretty much all the lyrics, Glenn :lol::lol: only a handful of songs did he write on his own and most of those I wouldn;t brag about.

Read Slash's book. You are correct about the lyrics, but Axl dominated the musical direction of the Illusion albums. He changed the structures, tones, etc from what the original song was to what he had in his psycho head, including what the others submitted. It's one of the reasons that Izzy got the hell out of dodge.

Good for Izzy. I have more respect for him now!!!:lol:

Whatever dude, be a dick if you want, I was just trying to be friendly...

Yes, buddy, that's track 1 on the album.
Was not trying to be a prick, but I can see you want to be one.
What I heard of the album had Chinese Democracy listed as the last track. Makes much more sense for it to be the first one since it is all down hill from there. I will correct it on my iPod later on if I don;t delete the whole damn thing off. THanks!!
