I have a nose for this stuff. Living near Wicker Park and living in a city filled with hipsters....these guys sound and look like the typical hipster metal band. It is hard to explain unless you have delt with these types. For example....Bible of the Devil is hipster metal. Basically a style where a band at one time maybe have been harder indi rock but since metal has become cool again....they do a throughback style band. They seem to all dress in retro metal shirts they just bought, have beards or goofy mustaches, buy only vinyl of stuff even though they probably dont even have turntables, and never really support metal shows other than the other hipster bands they know. I see it all the time. When ever Bible of the Devil plays there is a whole bunch of these types that show up and just sit there yelling, "Bible!!!". Plus, I never see these guys other than at shows where BOTD plays. But basically that act all obnoxious thinking they are being "metal". These are the same ones who will go to any show that is deemed metal that plays clubs like the Empty Bottle but would never step foot at a real metal show. The second metal becomes uncool again....these bands and people disappear and move on to the next new thing. Lots of these new stoner rock / doomish bands are filled with it. Granted there are good throwback bands but I just have a low tolerance for these hipster types.
Again....it is hard to put on paper / writing but I run into this stuff every day.

Pat didn't you try to turn me on to a bunch of Bible of the Devil stuff?

I have no problem with hipster metal if it is done well.
For example, I LOVE The Sword.
They do the whole 70's analog lo-fi production well.
Fits the music well.

Sure, 10 years ago were these guys into metal? Maybe not.

Though Bob - Take all your viking bands.
I am sure there are just as many posers in that genre too.
If you like the music, that's all that matters.

This sounds like good stuff to be rocking out to at the Empty Bottle or Cobra Lounge at 2AM late on a Saturday night.

Definitely better live music than on disc.

yeah....I dont listen to the poser ones though.

Sure, if you like the music that is cool. But to me being at a show with the annoying types drive sme nuts to no end. Then again...I dont like most people.

Well, I ain't just talking about Swashbuckle!!

What I am saying is that in the wake of metal's popularity, there are many respected bands who have members that have only been into metal for a couple years.

It's just entertainment afterall.
If you like a band, like them. who cares how KVLT they are.
There's phoneys in all genres. Always has been, always will be.

Many long running respected bands have members who don't like metal at all.

Yep, you beat me to it. You're gonna have these poser metal musicians in almost every genre of metal, who are just trying to prove how metal they are since it's gotten somewhat popular again.

Like Jason, I too like the Sword...as well as others, especially Baroness. This is why I hate this genre label though. For the ones that are good at it, they basically get labeled as posers as well, even if they aren't. Genre labels can be such an annoying thing.

As for the topic thread, eh they're okay. Nothing special. I really don't like the vocals though.
