I'd read recently that a "major metal figure" would be singing the parts of Dr X on Mindcrime II. The latest rumours are that the "major metal figure" is none other than The Metal God. How sweet would that be??

I know QR has lost many fans in recent years, but I still love their recent records. Halford would only help!

Seems like Queensrÿche are doing everything to bring back their old fans on board : full Mindcrime set at European festivals, oldies setlist on the Judas Priest tour, now Mindcrime II, Halford guesting... not that I'm complaining!

I just hope that they're sincere even though I don't except much from the record. As long as it's better than Tribe, fine by me.

First see and hear and then, only then will I believe. I have been an BIG Queensryche freak from the moment I heard their Queen of the Reich EP, I heave the original 206 release, but I need some very good songs before these guys will win me over again.

I read about this, but even so it's not enough to get the album. I never could got into Queensryche, and not even Halford can turn me in. Although I may d/l the song with him when the album leaked.

This little tidbit of observation may be the telling factor in this being a good/great release...

And it isn't just Queensryche who are recalling the past; a lot of mega-80s bands are going back to their roots for recent albums *ahem* *priest* and being relatively successful. From a marketing standpoint, this Mindcrime II label creates a stir among old school fans like me who lost track of them after Empire. I am hopeful they are aware of that and will accommodate.

Another factor that allows me to be relatively optimistic is the fact it's a concept album. From my experiences, concept albums are the most creative musically because the band takes their time and fits the music to the story, including a roller-coaster of highs and lows in tempo and emotion. The original Mindcrime had all that, and still ranks highly in my top-10 of all time.

Mindcrime II is actually the first Queensryche album that I've been anxious about since Empire. I guess the marketing is working......:err:

NP: Falconer - Grime vs. Grandeur

That original Operation Mindcrime is still an album I listen to religiously. I never tire of it. Pretty hard to top.....so I'm sceptical until I hear the follow-up for myself.

As far as Halford appearing on it: I know they got on quite famously while out on tour this past summer. So, I think they must have talked about working together at some point.

The only thing I'm skeptical about is no DeGarmo.
Other than that, so far they have caught my interest again. At least I can say that they were absolutly killer on the Priest tour this summer

That's my main sticking point too. I'd love nothing better than to have another kick ass QR disc. I'm not holding my breath. Everything they're doing can be seen as an honest effort to recapture what they've lost. It can also be seen as a money grab to pack their retirement accounts.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... ever since the news of O:M came out I have been very intrigued. And now this.... I defo want to hear this as soon as it comes out!

Yeah, well, Tribe was supposed to be the revitilization of QR, since DeGarmo was on the lineup, but we see how well that worked out.

I know I'm in the minority, but I see Tribe as one of their best records! Of course, I love them all - except for Q2K, so I'm biased, i guess.

The sound is certainly very different from the glory days, but great songs are still great songs, IMO, of course!

I'm not holding my breath....

I was into Queensryche for a good while. I saw them on the Warning tour, and really was impressed with all their dips and turns in style. When Operation Mindcrime came out I told anybody willing to listen that it was amazing. At the time, incidentally, not a lot of people agreed with me.

Anyway, I fell away after that. I'm not saying Empire etc. aren't any good, but I just plain lost them after that. I prefer the Roads To Madness - Sweet Sister Mary type Queensryche. I will at least look into this when it hits the street.....

Incidentally, they were kick ass on the Warning tour, and that was my very first concert. This was in December of '84, and they were opening for Kiss, who were touring for Animalize. Kiss being a childhood obsession of mine, but I felt lucky to see two bands I liked!

Wow, that's cool to pop your cherry on Queensryche/KISS. I got stuck being de-virginized with Molly Hatchet. It was a cool show, but not much claim to fame.

Unlike Soundmaster, I lost Ryche after Empire, which I thought was good, but not great like their early albums. I heard random songs from the albums since then and they just didn't do it for me. It's not bad, per se, but it just didn't hook me like Warning, Rage for Order and Mindcrime.

The last Queensrÿche album I dug was Promised Land. There was nothing metal left yet I can't help but love some of the songs and especially the atmospheres on this one. A very intimate and passionate record (great lyrics once again), simply not a metal one.

Ditto. No Degarmo scares me. I think Geoff should rough his skinny ass up a bit. >:p~ I am hoping for the best, but expecting the worst on this one. I would like tio hear them back in form from 15 years back. We will see I guess.
