Halford - The Mower

Maybe, though his voice is really smooth and clean on Nostradamus.

I think the harsher Painkiller-style vox simply match his solo material more.

I still never picked up any Halford solo discs.
I should someday check em out.
Just the few tunes I have heard seem as I said a bit too "modern" sounding

You should check them out. I would say though that the first Halford disc doesn't sound modern at all. In fact, it to me sounds like a Priest record for the most part. Also, his live insurrection disc is probably one of the best live metal discs ever recorded.

The other stuff has some modern tendencies, but I think it works because they are solo albums.

I'll tell you why Halford sounds like Udo, VenomGA,

The guy's 58 years old and still trying to scream like a banshee! Add to that the fact that he smokes, drinks, and is (according to tourmates) a couch potato on the road, and he's bound to start sounding rougher at some point. That said, I like the new song, and I'm glad that Halford is putting out another solo album. The first two rocked, and I can't imagine this one not doing the same.

Stay metal. Never rust.
Albert

From everything I've heard from him in interviews, I thought Halford hasn't smoked since the '80s.
