Hammers of Misfortune...anyone? PPUSA MATERIAL...!!!

I got Mike to "sign" my CDs the first time I saw them. He was so drunk he basically just scribbled on them. At least I was there with Justin (mosquito) to confirm I did meet the guys and that is their marks on the CD covers! Regardless of their intoxication, the show was great. I've seen them twice now and I'd see them as many times all over again if I could.

I'd watch Hammers at PPUSA if they ever played, though. I'm sure they'd do a good job. Topic creator picked the best song off their newest album too (The Grain)

Well it's not trolling so it must be...
Manilla Road are awesome and they deserve respect. Sadly Americans don't get that but not surprising, luckily Europeans do.
Mark's vocals can be hard to take like King Diamond, Warrel Dane and several others I can think of who sound like Jim Henson has his hand up their ass. Sometimes Dickinson and Halford can even hit the wrong never with me. Not comparing Mark to these others saying is is as good, because he's not, but saying many singers are acquired taste. Mark he gets the job done.

Fair enough, I guess. Personally, I'd never stop being a part of an online community because of one person trolling around (sorry Aeonic, *hugs* lol) but if it bothered you that much, then I understand.

What bothered me is the amount of time I felt I was personally wasting in a non-constructive debate.

Hahahaha, yeah, sorry about that!!!!!
Deron contacted me about it as well.
I will remove it, and resize it later.
Sorry....

@ Diabolik - DARN RIGHT! more bands should consider promoting themselves.... :)

I saw Hammers last month in Portland, and it was awesome. Perhaps the best set I'd seen from them, which is probably blasphemy, since I saw them twice before with Scalzi. Hard to think anyone could be a better frontman than him for Hammers, but the new guy pulled it off (in his own way, of course).

It seems like they would be a pretty good pick for ProgPower. I don't think they'd draw big numbers (though they got 50+ out in Portland on a Sunday night), but their critical-darling status and general lack of touring would be a good way to expand the ProgPower market in a slightly different direction, without offending any of the legacy core. I don't imagine they'd be too expensive, so they might be a good bang-for-the-buck thing.

Hmmm....I really haven't followed them too closely, but do they have critical-darling status??????
They have always seemed REALLY under the radar to me.

I only saw them once at ALEHORN. I don't know, they just didn't do it for me, but others who were there (like Diabolik) who are fans of them thought it was great.

I have no idea who was fronting them but it wasn't Scalzi (Though Slough Feg were on the bill too).

Depends what frequency band your radar is tuned to. '17th Street' is #5 on NPR's and #12 on Pitchfork's Best Metal of 2011 lists. More notable, they're basically the only band either critic mentions that comes even close to a "ProgPower style". (and no, Primordial doesn't count!)

EDIT: And #2 on PopMatters's list.

Due to their lyrical sophistication and self-awareness about their position in the metal scene, they've long been a favorite of metal critic types who are otherwise bored with metal and its conventions. Plus they've got two girls in the band (neither of whom is used as a sex-object), and who but the lowest metal neanderthal isn't impressed by that? :goggly:

Oh yeah, you're probably right. I was assuming Scalzi was still around with Hammers for that show. Ok, well the new guy was clearly *way* better than the guy I didn't even remember.
