I think Zep are one of the most overrated bands ever

I'd take Deep Purple and Black Sabbath over Zep for the original Birmingham bands.

Zep was needlessly complicated ... on all levels.

I don't even think the complication was the issue for me (I like Frank Zappa and various crazed shit). It just struck me that for every good song they wrote (Whole Lotta Love, Immigrant Song) they had a bunch of completely uninteresting, very non-rockin' tunes that I will never sit through again.

yeah I agree with that ... so in the end they're just a chore to listen to.

not that I am huge fan or anything but I can't think of ONE release of theirs that's mind blowing through and through.

I think 4 gets the most hype. 2 is probably the best of their work in my opinion, and I like three songs on it... so that kind of says everything right there as far as my Led Zepplin fandom goes
