Hard-Wiring Power Supply Help!

Way off topic!! I know we have some electronics gurus out there. I have a Sentry Safe that has the electronic keypad for entering in the code to open it. It takes 4 AA batteries and it eats through them like crazy! I've tried rechargeables but they don't work unless I've taken them fresh off the charger. I was thinking about buying a 6 volt adapter from Radio Shack and hard-wiring it to the two wires that connect to the battery housing. Will that actually work?? Will it fry the board?

I do stuff like this all the time.

Just get a 6V DC adapter and hook the poles up correctly. It'll work like a charm.

Just make sure it's DC!
