Hi Folks!

Just found this Forum and i think its awesome :Smokin:!

I would love to hear some quick opinions on this Hardcore Mix i did for a band that i recorded in their rehearsel room.

I think they´ll gonna record their LP with me and i just wanted to know what i can do better when we really get in the studio. The band is very satisfied with this mix, though.

edith: turn up the volume, soundcloud is pretty fucking quiet! :D

thanks in advance ;)

interesting.

my goal was not to go for that overly bright clinic clean metalsound, every band nowadays has.... seems i achieved my goal :D.

thanks for your input!

Yeah, it's good mate, can imagine it on a CD, so although I agree with the afore comment, it really fits the bill.

Maybe try blending the vocals in a bit more using a short delay, room reverb and compress the fuck out of it more.

Vocals dont seem to sit too well in the mix, perhaps play around with some different verbs or delays as mentioned before. Very squashed sounding mix but if thats what you were going for then sweet, suits the music

All in all its just another... brick in the wall :D
That being said, sounds pretty good dude, its got a grittyness to it that I really really like. Maybe just back off on the limiter a little! What are you using for mastering anyway?

thanks for your critique!

mastering chain is hi&lo cut via oxford eq native -> waves ssl comp at about 2db gainreduction -> waves c4 -> oxford mastering limiter. so really cranked all volume out of it :D i played around with a few clippers instead of the limiter, could have made it sound less squashy, but all of em crackled at such a high mastering volume. so i went for the limiter cause i liked how it sounded (toms ducking the guitars and shit)

the vocals were tracked using an sm58, with a self made pop filter (made from a paper tissue)... so the vocal we´re recorded really lo-fi, perhaps thats another reason they don´t sit very well. i used to have em louder, but i wanted to have that "vocals vs. guitar" feel so i left them the way they are.

The vocals sound a little more thrashy than hardcore to me, but it's pretty good.

I'm really digging the snare. Info on that?

The Snaresound consists of the following:

1. Sm57 on the batter head, with transient boost and some EQ to boost highs and body.
2. Some annoying 8bit sample from Alesis Dm5 which sounds really good in context
3. A Snare sample from Andy Sneap, but with the attack gated away, just to get some 'bottom-mic' vibe, almost inaudibly low in volume.

routet into a subgroup and in that, clipped and compressed the f**k out if it, as usual

+ Waves IR1 Reverb with the "Gated Snare" Preset and some highs boostet

hey folks!

little update here: recorded the band again for a 7 inch vynil promotion EP type of thing, to promote the upcoming full length album.

they uploaded one track to myspace: http://www.myspace.com/theplatoon/mu...-77119816?ap=1

i apologize for the poor myspace quality, it´s pretty likely there will be an mp3 download, im gonna update the links then :)

despite myspace, i would like to hear your opinions :)

cheers
