Has Anyone Used the Snare Drum Samples from the Mapex Site

Has anyone used the snare drum samples from the Mapex site for thier mixes? The site demos thier different snare drums and different hits

I'm finishing a mix with a cherry sample that (AFAIR) is from there, although I think most of those are mp3s in stereo? The cherry one I used is .wav, but I remember checking and finding only mp3s

I use Cakewalk Pyro to convert mp3 to wave and via versa, if your interested in a good program

you're still using MP3s (which most people would not consider to be high enough quality to use for a mix), converting MP3 to WAV doesn't bring back any of the audio information that was lost when it was converted to MP3

I think with drums, especially when you are stacking them over real drums, Mp3 samples are fine

To be honest, if it's a decent quality mp3 I think you could use it for a snare sample (especially if blending). If it sounds good, go for it.

maybe, but Brian's point still stands, it's useless to "convert" it to .wav, you're only making the file heavier

True, unless you need to have .wavs, for example to use them in Trigger (not sure if it accepts mp3's).

I've got the whole bundle of samples from the site, I'm not on my computer so I can't check if that one's there but if it's on the site I should have it. I can upload it for you tomorrow if you want

I know when I convert to MP3 everything is .4 seconds later than normal.

Good point. I already did, mix is probably already being sent to gig organizers. I suppose if they're free there should be no problem but I don't know really

I'm no expert, but I think it could be illegal to use them for commercial things even though they're available for free. Depends on the license.

I sometimes use a Chris Adler signature snare sample found in a masive Mapex Snares collection someone posted over here....everything is mp3, and you have to cut it manually

You gotta have a judge / lawyer with pretty good ears to pick out an illegal sample, especially after it's in the mix.
