Have to read this!

"Even as we debunked the story on our own website in clear bold lettering, fans continued to write in and argue that the lawsuit had to be real — that Metallica were really suing us — because they heard it on the radio and saw it on TV. It no longer mattered what we had to say about our own creation — it was all in the media's hands now. All we could do was wait for them to correct themselves, if they felt so obliged. Some did. Others were content simply removing the embarassing evidence and pretending it never happened.

It's somewhat troubling to realize that careers (and lives) have been made and broken by what the media — this very same media — has elected to write about them.

It was all a joke — but one that America wished so hard to be true, it slowly stopped mattering if it was or not. "

:tickled: and yet :erk:
