Heard about a new tecnology in acoustics

Past saturday, i was talking to my other guitarrist, and he know a guy in his work, who is a student of this guy that is developing this with some other guy in the Us.

I´ll try to explain the better i can, because my english is not so fluid.

In his words is a kind of "futuristic" thing, it´s basically like an structure, with Triangle shape, well two triangles one above the other (thing about a sand clock), so you put them in place and this structure will project the sound, i mean, there´s no need to mic anything, you just play let´s say acoustic guitar, or electric with an amp, and the strucutre will amplify everything.

He was telling him that they are testing this thing in their studio, in a small room, with acoustic guitar, and it sound awesome, even if you talk you will heard it amplified.

it seems that their goal is that you can amplify an entire Arena with this tecnology, with no need of speakers Etc.

i dont know materials, the actual or exact shape, internal shape etc.

and comes to my mind, if this will be implemented in any future, how you can add Eq, Compresion, Effects and all.

Seems like Sci fi, maybe is just a fantasy of these guys, but really interesting, anyone have heard about this??

should be cool, just as my plan to add subconscious frequency impulse combinations to music to get people in a preferred mood. Seriously, research the effect of sound waves and their modulation on people. :)

i was thinking the same thing although i never thought to deep into it. if it can be done with music and different chords after one another depending on what they are, why can this not work with frequencies? i encourage you to look into it more :)

well, there´s no need to put anything hidden, if i wanna get a good mood, i hear "Living in the past" by Jethro Tull, or when i hear Slayer, i feel with a lot of adrenaline:headbang:

seriously though. When you hear a high-pitched, fast modulating frequency, you should feel the anger rising :D. I remember that the Nazi's got this machine that they've tested on people and they've become beast-like. I can't remember the name but maybe somebody could post it.

bit random.. but..
brown note at 2hz.. can anyone verify this?

this is what i have heard, and that the intensity of 2hz at a good level would make your insides tense up a push causing you to shit lol
its like one of those playground tales your told as a kid but in the world of sound lol

just something i heard and always wondered about lol

If you find this lemme know...

I wanna rage out and become beast like pre-work.

this thing about frequencies is really cool. I've found this article about infrasound, which is non-audible, but it can still have affect on your body:
http://www.forteantimes.com/features/articles/256/sonic_weapons.html

According to the Working Paper on Infrasound Weapons produced by Hungary for the United Nations in 1978 4, the frequency that is thought to be most dangerous to humans is between 7 and 8Hz. This is the resonant frequency of flesh and, theoretically, it can rupture internal organs if loud enough.

and i've also found this: http://www.rotarywoofer.com/
a subwoofer that can go below 20hz

You should check out something called iDoser. It's basically exactly what you are talking about, the frequencies that affect the body/mind kind of subliminally or subconciously. There are frequencies that you conciously cannot hear, but only subconciously hear, as well as frequencies that you only feel, and not hear, like a really good sub-hit. Some sub-hits are so deep (that perfect frequency) that when they occur in audio you are only feeling the vibration of them, like when you feel as though you just got smashed in the chest and feel your ribcage vibrating.

There are some frequencies that supposedly (when exposed to them for extended periods of time - 15 minutes or more sometimes) can recreate the same affects as marijuana and many other drugs. Also, alcohol (which is considered a drug as well...), coffee and so much more. I haven't tried it myself yet but I found out about it through an old friend that said he tried the alcohol one and said it worked but didn't last very long. I think he also said that one took about ~20-30 of listening, in order to get about 10-15 minutes of the effect. If I remember correctly, that is.

Upon hearing about this frequency experimenting my friends and I had the idea of doing an album of completely depressing music, and having a nirvana-envoking frequeny playing subiminally the entire time underneath the music. Thought it would be pretty crazy to listen to some sad ass music and have this unexplainable joy, lol.

Sounds neat, but I have yet to care enough to try it out. I'm sure the idea is sound in theory (no pun intended), but I'd be willing to bet that not everyone has the same reaction to the same frequencies. Anyway, thought I would share that.

On some of the new Genelec monitors they have digital room augmentation (i forget what they call it). But basically its a program that you give your room dimensions and use this small microphone that corrects all the bass nodes and frequency colorations in your room and creates wherever you have it set as the "sweet spot". Its pretty cool check it out.

Are you sure you're not thinking of JBL?

Again, guys, as has been mentioned a thousand times before, the 'brown note' is bullshit. On top of just about every frequency in existence below hearing range being naturally occurring during storms, shakes, quakes, and other such instances of our lovely planet being pissy at us, several board members have looked for it.

Metalkingdom went into more detail about this, as he had more than enough experience looking around low end... think he just ran out of laxatives one day and got desperate, I don't know... and he didn't find anything. There's also Mythbusters, which should be required viewing for everyone who ever lived period.

I think it was that Mythbusters rippoff "Brainiac" (sp?) from the UK that did a test on the brown note. Unfortunately, the TV I was watching it on, like many, should not have been able to reproduce that sub sonic note. Funnily enough, there was a sound coming from the TV, probably more around the 200Hz region.

At that point I turned the TV off.

I might go looking for that MB's episode.
