can't share your enthusiasm I'm afraid.
I watched it to give him another chance but nope, fails again. I yawned 3 times.
I'm not saying he is a bad guitarist or anything, it is just that anything related to him or DT does absolutely NOTHING for me.
Once I bought Images & Words because some good friend recommended it and I found myself trading it with Dismembers Death Metal 2 days after I bought and tried to get into it :D

It is like watching the World Champion in masturbating, he might be fast and have technique but I just don't feel anything

Fuuuuuccckkkk, watching this just breaks my heart, cuz it reminds me how DT used to be my all-time favorite band, and then I heard Train of Thought and truly have never been so surprised and disappointed in my life. From this soaring, epic, (slightly nerdy) prog-rock to their fucking wannabe heavy radio rock nonsense of today, with their designer clothes (obviously purchased after consulting with a stylist) and Petrucci's regression into endless wankery rather than the melodic beauty he used to craft (case in point above), it all just reeks of nerds with identity crises who have lost their way. siiiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhh :erk:

agree with you on SC not on TOT. loveeeeeeeeeeed TOT and OCTOVARIUM.

i really like the mixing courtesy of michael brauer on 8vm also. really sits in nice with everything.

though i def do prefer older DT as awake is my favorite album probably of all time, if not in the top 3 ever in any genre for me. i think the reason their newer shit sucks is they abandoned their 80's pop and jazz influences that they had in the 90s.

it's too like progggy i guess you could call it. too technical and very pseudo-heavy.

Sacrificed Sons solo shits over pretty much ever other solo of his ever IMO.
So much feeling in that solo, goddamn.

You took the words right out of my mouth really, Marcus.
They were really one of the best band on this planet at that time :(

I yawned 3

Yep

Again Marcus, completely agreed. I got Train of Thought, Octavarium and Systematic Chaos all in hopes of something killer. The albums as a whole...no. From Train of Thought I really enjoyed the instrumental Stream of Consciousness and Vacant. Octavarium is at least worth a decent listen because they weaved SO MUCH into that album that reflects their whole career. Plus the title track is cool. Systematic Chaos has some cool aspects, I mean these guys aren't complete retards, but most of it is hype and attitude.

Unless I hear tons of reports of DT going back to the old days for this new album, I'm gonna pass. *sigh* I'm gonna go listen to LTE. Gotta get my prog.

I gotta say, despite the fact that it's probably filled with evangelical Christian babbling, that game looks pretty cool...

Oh god, nevermind - from the features list...

"6 levels of intriguing, meaningful gameplay"
"Powerful Biblical Content"

And it seems to basically be one of those playable 360-degree quicktime movies (oh excuse me, an "adventure game") - I thought they stopped making those at the turn of the millennium?

at 1:30, its a theme from a beatles song with an strong india influence. cant remeber the name.

ah its Within You Without You on the Sergent pepper album.

the solo is great, petrucci as it best.

I fucking love this short George Harrison "within you, without you" hommage in the Petrucci solo. Do you know what I mean? If not, listen to this, bros:

I really have to say: I LOVE DREAM THEATER!! Especially "Train of thought". The last song on this album has the best refrain since "pull me under"..imo

IN THE NAME OF GOD!!! = Best DT Song ever for me.

I heard one of the members say somewhere that they're in the 'maintenance' stage, so I don't think anything groundbreaking (ie. good) will be coming out of them for at least a few years.

They do seem to have lost some of the magic. Either its generic metal, or its ridiculously complex and not enjoyable to listen to, or its 'calm' repeated for 5 minutes.

On a side note.. LaBrie sounds really good here. Quite a few off notes but WAY better than he is now. Although when I saw him live he was great.. the new live DVD is disgusting.

ahahahah nice one Felix :)

great bands both of them. inspiration. respect. I love them.

+1000 dude :kickass:

With Beatles ALL began for me..I stole some parent´s vinyls and *bang* I became a musician. I´m still a great fan of ´em.

I appreciate it, that Dream Theater shows their Beatles sympathy. I think there exists some kind of an Abbey Road medley or something.
