They spoke of listening to bands including System of a Down, Slipknot, Tool, Dragon Force, Forward Russia and In Flames
Yeah, "heavy metal"...
Nonetheless, interesting article even though I believe all this music/self-esteem link, along with the impacts of a certain genre of music on studies, is nothing but stereotypes.
Granted, people will always go to the extreme and say "look at those gangsters, they only listen to rap music with lyrics about drugs, hookers, etc, and they fell into the world" or even "look at those metalheads, they only listen to *insert a word* metal with lyrics about satanism, anti-Christianity, etc, and they are fucked up people now", but honestly I know a lot of said "gangsters" or "metalheads" that are very, very intelligent.
That's my point of view basically; it's just like the racism stereotypes. They are present and nothing we can really do about it, but I, for one, strongly believe there's no link at all between the music a person listens to and his studies.
What about the childhood, the past, the relationship with their parents, the friendships, etc? There are WAY too many variables playing on one's self-esteem, and even then, there are always exceptions.
