Hello! ... I'm a newbie in town!

Welcome! Glad to see someone besides me is using this goofy avatar. Looks a lot like me...except I'm not yellow.

Wait, Jackie, how many sisters do you have?

crack-head sis wants to learn the bass... I'm looking for one for her as I type :)
Well, you have bassbitch's and my contact info, anyway...

Thanks for all the help, guys! Oh! To answer Jen, I WISH I played guitar! I've got my heart set on learning the bass first, but I hope I get around to learning the guitar eventually... maybe even drums one day, if I decide to give that a try... and develop a little coordination on the way!

know of a place to get a cheap starter bass?
Try this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=031116072029024024250216058957/g=bass/search/c=6318

This should get you started, just remember to keep headphones and a metronome on hand. You can really focus on your technique and your playing when you've got the click going and you can hear all the mistakes that your making. (Trust me, this is a very good thing. It forces you to improve your playing.)

And, don't give up on the thought of learning the regular 6-string. Once you graduate from high school and start going to college, they should offer classes in beginning guitar and classical guitar. (My school also offers Guitar Ensemble and Studio Guitar.) Take those classes. You'll learn to read music notation for guitar which will enable you to play any type of music. Also, you'll more than likely learn to play guitar with your fingers in those classes and those skills transfer over to the bass quite easily. :)

Thank you so much! Jackie and I went to a couple of pawn shops today to see if we could find anything. Definitely something to keep in mind... we were pretty annoyed that Guitar Center closes at six on Sundays (along with the rest of the world)... how lame is that!? So the search continues... on and on... **searching**
