Help me deal with band's weird mix requests

Newest mix sounds best.
I think the snare and kick drum should maybe not really be louder, but just hit harder (more a dynamics than volume thing).

Still it sounds really good, I really like the bass, the guitars are much better now too. They sound a lot heavier than in the two preceding mixes.

edit : as TheXRatedDodo said, the Black Panther samples would fit the music a lot better, and surely one of the kick samples from the huge selection of this forum would be more appropriate than what is in the mix right now.

Hey, replacing the kick and snare was the frist thing I did when they sent me the drums (BFD 2). But they insist that I keep their drums instead ;/ Plus there are some ghost notes that they want to be easily heard and I guess it's not worth the struggle to fiddle with samples for a couple of hours and finally hear them say they want "their thing".

I want bands to be happy in the end and I feel this mix wouldn't be a bad example of my mixing, just a different one, and versatility is a good thing. :)
I will work and the kick some more, though.

Thanks for the feedback, and keep it coming :kickass:

Im really liking the mix. I love the snare, although its a TOUCH cloudy. Try ducking some mids out of it, but only 1 or 2 dB. Do you have samples of it? The kick is a bit iffy, its a bit basketbally in the soft bit, but doesnt really cut in the heavy bit.

The one other thing I have to say is that the mix is relying on the bass a little too much I think. It sounds absolutely huge on my headphones, but if I listen on laptop speakers which have literally NOTHING past 3 or 400Hz, it sounds really small. Try working without a sub if you're using one, and get the mids nice and fat. But this is nitpicking, its a professional sounding mix, and I really like it. Samples of snare?

I think the drums could definitely use a little more compression. I don't know if you've used it allready, but parallel compression should work nicely for this style of music.

Ok, the band are now happy with the mix and this is most probably the final version:

It will be great if some of you could give it a final listen so that I know it's really ready.
Thanks to all who have helped me make this a good mix

oh god, I re-listened to your mix! Now I can say I'm in love with your super dry (a bit lifeless) guitar tone absolutely! (this is the first time I love a guitar tone absolutely!!!) I don't know why, but I really like some lifeless feeling of digital stuffs like Line6 Pod. What amp did you use to record this tone? Is it POD or real tube amp (I hope it's pod or some amp sim that except axefx because I'll have a chance to be close to your tone :) )? And if it's possible, please share some details about the guitars... Thank you so so much! \m/
I also be curious with bass tone, the bass has some string buzz sounds? I really like that!
Your newest mix sounds awesome!

It's a custom tube amp that's mainly based on Soldano SLO100. There'a lot of eq, though (like 20-30 bands of narrow cuts) and a bit of multiband dynamics to get the low-mids under control.

Thank you. What cabinet and mic did you use?
20-30 bands of narrow cuts? :ill:
Could you share the amp settings? In the pod, I also have model Soldano SLO100, so I can give it a try. :D

@Djabthrash: Yeah, I know. Not many people like it! :heh:
