It's 10' long

Planet waves make great cables, i use them all the time, i order them from thomann! They also carry a lifetime guarantee if you keep your reciept of order

lamsy:)

Well they say instrument on them, but they are just like any other balanced cable. You could use those from interface to monitors or wherever you would normally use a stereo cable. You wouldn't normally use that for a guitar > amp situation though. Amazon's description says you could use that from guitar to interface (but I would go mono into a DI personally), or from the output of a stereo guitar? WTF do those exist?

they make stereo and mono versions of the Custom Pro Series or whatever. I guess that little springy bit is to help keep cables seated in jacks that may be a little loose or noisy.

I use the custom series mono instrument cables for my guitars. I love 'em. And the lifetime warranty is sweet!

See I'm thinking (have no way to back this up) that since one end, as can be seen in the pic I posted, has the marking "shielded end" that they wired this cable up to have a floating shield...

In other words, I don't think the other end has the shield hooked up.

I have witnessed this with other cables, only they did it kind of different where they used a twisted pair instead of a single core wire for the tip and the regular braid as the sleeve (so they used balanced cable to wire up an instrument cable).

I literally have just not paid enough attention to this cable. I've had it for 5 years now.

All my planet waves cables have a shielded end. That just means they're directional. They hook up the shield to the ground on one end to prevent noise going into the amp. So the shielded end should always be the out. (connected to the amp)

But that's really just a standard balanced 1/4" to 1/4" cable with springy things on it. You would use it to hook up balanced equip, but I wouldn't use it as an instrument cable. They make the exact same thing but unbalanced for guitar to pedal/amp connections.

+1

I use Planet Waves instrument cables and they are just TS on the end, not TRS. Those aren't instrument cables in the pics.

I am a tech noob, so could someone explain to me why would be wrong to use TRS cable to connect a guitar to the cab? Curious.

Technically there really shouldn't be anything wrong with it unless you have some sort of goofy connection issue. In fact there is a system that distributes power through TRS cables to power pedals off either the amp or a power center type deal.

on the planet waves cables I have around here the 'directional' aspect didn't do shit. No noise but direction doesn't matter.
The biggest problem is they go bad too fast. They get microphonic or scratchy when you move them or the wires break just after the strain relief. I've replaced my cables so many times, luckily most retailers are good about the lifetime warranty. I'm talking about the guitar cables here.

Have you considered Monoprice cables? Very decent quality and about 1/5th the price.
I use them and Brian Kozicki does. Seriously, they're great.

Actually that place is pretty rad. Just ordered 4 shorter 1/4" > xlr and xlr cables to connect my monitor controller and interface up with my monitors. also got a couple adapters. All for $25 shipped. Nice! Getting rid of some cable clutter behind my desk.
