So I recorded a band that were friends of mine probably over 3 years ago now, and the reason it never got mixed and finished was because I haven't been paid a dime for my work so far. It's actually a miracle I still have the project. I didn't know what reamping was back then, so I'm stuck with a rather crappy guitar tone (Krankenstein through a standard mesa slant cab, mic'd with a 57 and some condenser IIRC, made the mistake of letting them dial in their own settings). I'm also stuck with tom tracks that have tons of cymbal bleed, because long ago I backed up all the raw tracks to dvds, bounced the toms together for a rough mix, erased the raw tracks from my system to free up space, and have since lost the dvds with the individual tracks, so I can't replace the toms. Unfortunately the drummer does a lot of soft hits that basically are buried, but hey, ¯\(°_o)/¯

So now way down the road theyre calling me up saying they'll give me $200 for the recording as it is (extremely rough). In all honesty considering I already put over 100 hours of work into this mess I shouldn't touch a single fader, but I have a nagging urge to try to polish it up as best I can, though as quickly and effortlessly as I can.

Basically I'm just wondering if any of you might have any opinions on how I can do some quick fixes and/or adjustments to make this sound a little less shitty. I know it will never sound great considering I can't/won't re-record anything, but I'm just looking for some opinions. Thanks!

Hey dude this sounds really good!

Id maybe turn the kick down a bit and add a bit more top to the snare but besides that its sweet! Good job!

Really!? Hrmm. Thanks, I reckon. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea how things turned out so I'm sort of negatively biased. I will apply your recommendations to my tweakage, my friend!

I think those guitars sound pretty fucking good personally.
There's a pro mix waiting in here with some sample replacement.

Sweet thanks guys! You have no idea how much shit I went through back in the day of them telling me that they weren't happy with how things were sounding. I think it was just that they didn't want to pay for it, haha. And for $200 for my 100+ hours of work, I should render the final mix in 8-bit, haha. "Take that, fuckers!"

That's pretty much the plan, though it will all be via mail, since I've since moved to another state. So you can imagine my surprise when they emailed me asking if I still had the project, haha.
