one of the many things my recordings lack are bright "roomy" cymbals. Listening to a lot of pro recordings it really creates an overall depth. Whether using samples or real played cymbals I have never gotten that awesome splashy overhead sound. Any secrets? A favorite micing technique, heavy compression on the overheads, a general starting point on a eq, etc.?
