Help Getting a Usable Natural Kick Drum Sound

Things to try:

- Use a signal generator to put a sine wave or some artificial subfrequency content below the kick.
- Use D112 Backwards - WORKS WORKS WORKS!
- Use Sidechaining with bass to create an illusion of punch
- use waves maxxbass or rbass or something similar
- try varietyofsounds booteq, cut lows with it, use the LF control on the right to put them back in

Did you actually listen to the track before suggesting these? If you actually listened to the track, the problem with the D112 track is not the lack of low end, I'd say it even has too much of it.

Yo Jason. Personally I'd say judging by the amount of bleed, that this is all down to microphone positioning. Are you doing 'test' takes, and listening back and adjusting the microphones until it sounds right?

Unfortunately for you that isn't a very good signal to begin with....so it's way easier to replace/blend.

Could it be that your mic is damaged?

Surely you should be able to get better results with a d112....but having said that.

What state is that kick drum in?

Play with the positioning and tune that kick drum to give you a better source to work with.

*if you think it's the mic and can't afford one....why not see if you can lend one for the session?
