Heroic man sells broken laptop on ebay

That totally reeks of awesomeness, I saw it on digg.

I just don't get why he didn't format his hard drive. I've sold several computers and always did a fresh format and OS reinstall. The contents of my drive were never as awesome as this guy's though.

That was humorous.

Kazrog - formatting is not enough, really. Chances are whoever buys a used HDD or system will not run any type of recovery utility on it, but if they DO, you are much better off running KillDisc on it before you sell.

It will write 1's to every sector on HD. Much safer than a simple format which is easily recoverable. Something to keep in mind the next time to sell... you never know what kinda clownin' foo is buyin' your goodz.

Yeah, well Apple's included Disk Utility on Macs will do that and more - Zero All Data and 8-Way Random Format (and I have always used that option when selling old Macs):

Excellent. I'm very proud.

Us Windows guys do not have such options built-in to our inferior operating systems, so we have to use third party applications. =)

I remember when I was like 12 or 13 and had to RMA a Western Digital hard drive. I was totally green on PC's back then and did not want WD to see my data (I had formatted it but was not sure if that was enough). So I put the drive in my FISH TANK for a week before I shipped it to them!! =)
