Zo af en toe kruist een plaat je pad waarbij je je afvraagt wat je ermee aan moet. Herrschaft's Architects of the Humanicide is hier een goed voorbeeld van. De Franse band maakt metal die overgoten is met industriële en electro-invloeden. Wat uiteindelijk resulteert in een plaat die eigenlijk overal buiten valt, maar wel weer een lekker mysterieus futuristisch sfeertje uitstraalt.

De muziek lijkt een rommelige mix van het industriële werk van DHG, het album The Grudge van Mortiis met een portie simpele metal. Want nee, voor muzikale hoogstandjes moet je bij dit album niet wezen. Nee, deze moderne industriële metal moet het vooral hebben van het feit dat het een plaatje is dat makkelijk wegluistert. Vanwege dat feit durf ik het ook niet aan om met de term black metal te gooien, hoewel de band het hier volgens mij niet mee eens is.

Agh slecht is het zeker niet allemaal. De vrij korte cd bevat vijf nummers die allen best aardig klinken. Maar als ik me bedenk wat voor goede (vergelijkbare) schijven het jaar 2007 al gebracht heeft denk ik toch dat deze plaat de weg naar mijn cd-speler bijzonder weinig terug zal vinden.

Roel de Haan: Ondanks hun Duitse naam is dit een Franse groep. 'Architects Of The Humanicide' is debuut cd. Hun muziek is een vreemde mix van techno beats, black metal, industrial en zelfs wat ambient elementen. Dit alles wordt gecomplementeerd met nogal extreme krijsen, black metalstijl. Men is vergelijkbaar met bands als …And Oceans, the Kovenant en Ewigkeit maar besef wel dat ze niet vergelijkbaar zijn qua geluid maar meer qua benadering.

De nummers bevatten duidelijk goede ideeën maar zouden best pittiger mogen zijn. Buiten dat zijn de vervormde vocalen op den duur best irritant vanwege hun uniformiteit en geringe ontcijferbaarheid. Desondanks best belovende, dit Herrschaft.

Ja „Herrschaftszeiten“!!! Was geht denn hier ab? M.X., Mat, Zoe und Max alias „Herrschaft“ begeben sich mit ihrem Demo-Debüt „Architects of the Humanicide“ auf eine Reise in die Zukunft. Genauer gesagt ins Jahr 2052. Dort prognostizieren die vier Franzosen nämlich den Untergang der Menschheit und ihrer bis dahin voll technisierten Welt aus Synthetik und Sterilität. Der Mensch wird zum Architekten seiner eigenen Auslöschung. 2052? Nun, man könnte meinen das werde schon früher der Fall sein. Passend zur Thematik wird eine Breitseite aus Electro, Black- und Industrial Metal präsentiert.

Diese Mischung hat es aber auch wirklich in sich. Hier wird die Schnittstelle zwischen Black Metal und dem härteren Electro-Lager gelegt. Trashige Gitarren-Riffs, ein hämmernder Drumcomputer (der sehr elektronisch wirkt) und verzerrter Schreigesang treffen auf melodische Synths, Samples und diverse Effekte. Dabei schafft es die Band in Einzigartiger Weise ihren Sound düster, kalt, steril und brachial zu gestalten. Das Intro „Rise to Humanicide“ beginnt elektronisch und recht ruhig, steigert sich dann aber zur wütenden Raserei und senkt sich wieder zu einem beklemmenden Fatalismus. Mit „Apogee“ lassen sie dann die Hölle los. Mit geballter Wucht hämmert sich dieser Track in die Gehörgänge. Verbindungen zum Industrial Metal werden hier beim Riffing deutlich hörbar. Bei „Haunting Torture“ überwiegt nun der Electro. Bei diesem wütenden und beklemmenden Mid-Tempo Song werden die Gitarren, zugunsten der düsteren und melodischen Synths, zurückgefahren. Deutlich prägnant ist hier auch der schneidende Kreischgesang. Was für ein genialer Track. Darauf folgt mit „Self Bondage“ ein weiterer Knaller. Mit den Worten „Welcome to Slavery“ beginnt jener und versklavt mich umgehend. Sehr sphärisch, hart, abwechslungsreich und facettenreich kreiert man hier ein Gefühl absoluter Hilflosigkeit und unterdrückter Wut. Der in französische geschriebene Abschluss „De Flammes de D`Ombre“ leitet diesen Silberling sehr metallisch aus.

Insgesamt bin ich von dieser Veröffentlichung sehr begeistert. Soundtechnisch und kompositorisch bleibt sicherlich noch Luft nach oben, dennoch ist dies für Demo-Verhältnisse wirklich herausragend und verdient eine hohe Punktzahl. Härter als The Kovenant, elektronischer als Count Nosferatu Kommando, Scorngrain und Aborym, und eingängiger als …And Oceans gehen „Herrschaft“ ihren Weg und setzen ihn hoffentlich fort.

Voilà le premier MCD d’HERRSCHAFT, ou devrais-je dire : revoilà le premier MCD de ce groupe qui évolue dans une sphère électro/indus/black. En effet, il s’agit ici d’une édition du 5-titres du groupe par leur nouveau label Code666 Records (filiale du label italien Aural Records) qui lui donne une distribution mondiale, en prélude à la sortie du premier album du groupe probablement fin 2007. Vous avez en effet déjà du lire courant 2006 des chroniques concernant ce disque, « Architects of the Humanicide » est le premier effort autoproduit du trio parisien que je découvre pour ma part grâce à ce pli reçu d’Italie.
HERRSCHAFT œuvre depuis 2004 dans un style assez peu représenté en France, de l’électro/indus légèrement teinté de black métal. Dans l’esprit, on peut penser à THE CNK (ex-COUNT NOSFERATU KOMMANDO et actuel THE COSA NOSTRA KLUB) et le côté martial soutenu par des guitares aux riffs puissants est immanquablement associé au métal industriel (RAMMSTEIN, pour donner un exemple mainstream, LAIBACH un peu aussi - forcément). Poser une ambiance semble être dans le savoir-faire de ces gaillards d’HERRSCHAFT qui dans le domaine pourraient aisément sombrer corps et âmes dans un électro/dark à la :WUMPSCUT: (le titre « Haunting Torture » en est un bon exemple), les accointances métalliques du combo ne restant sensibles que dans la présence des guitares et dans la voix approchant peut-être le black (et voilà le pourquoi de l’estampille « black-métal » sur la fiche promo. Les influences sont forcément présente remarquez… puisque Max, le batteur, a officié un temps chez OTARGOS). En effet, ces ambiances sombres et brutales parfaitement maîtrisées font de ce « Architects of the Humanicide » un disque à la charge émotionnelle forte. Il ne dure que vingt-deux minutes, mais s’avère d’une compacité et d’une sombritude (néologisme inspiré de qui vous savez) éprouvante. Cette ambiance n’est bien sûr pas étrangère au thème abordée par le disque, évoquant une sorte d’autodestruction de l’espère humaine, les architectes de l’extermination de l’Homme évoqués dans le titre du MCD n’ont en effet pas à être cherchés bien loin.
HERRSCHAFT signe ici un album remarquable, peut-être plus électro que métal d’un certain point de vue, mais qu’on rapprochera par exemple d’EOSTENEM aussi bien pour l’intensité que pour la qualité de l’ensemble d’ailleurs. Puisqu’il est une certitude, « Architects of the Humanicide » place d’entrée ce jeune groupe dans la case « groupes à surveiller de près », à l’identité marquée. Ce qu’ils savent faire en une vingtaine de minutes est un avant-goût qui ne laisse présager que du bon pour l’album qui arrive donc probablement fin 2007 et dont nous ne manquerons pas de vous parler sur Fannzic !

Electro black metal. "What the fuck?" was het eerste wat ik dacht bij het lezen van deze omschrijving. Nieuwsgierig door deze term stop ik het schijfje in de cd-speler. Terwijl het intro Rise to the Humanicide klinkt bekijk ik het artwork van deze mini. Ziet eruit als een standaard electro/ industrial cd. Drie mannen met make-up, make-up ja, geen corpsepaint, staren je 'evil' aan vanuit het boekje met de liner notes. Herrschaft noemen ze zich. Een Franse band met een Duitse naam.

Opvallend detail: de teksten op de website van de band zijn uitsluitend in het Frans, zoals vaak bij Franse bands. In het land van Eiffeltoren en croissants willen bands blijkbaar alleen binnen de eigen taalgrenzen bekendheid, of ze gaan er van uit dat de hele wereld wel Frans begrijpt of dat zo snel mogelijk zal gaan leren. Maar ja, moet kunnen allemaal. Het gaat tenslotte om de muziek.

Wat dit met black metal te maken heeft is me niet geheel duidelijk. Na een aantal luisterbeurten kan ik niets anders dan concluderen dat Herrschaft een van de vele bands is in het electro/ industrial genre, dat weliswaar in een aantal opzichten lijkt op metal maar daar over het algemeen weinig tot niets mee gemeen heeft. De met distortion en allerlei effecten overgoten vocalen doen wel ver aan black metal vocals denken.
Dit is echter alleen het geval bij de schreeuw-passages. In een aantal nummers zijn ook cleane, declamerende vocalen gebruikt die een duistere sfeer creëren. De mini is een conceptalbum, vol voorspellingen over de toekomst van het menselijk ras. Die toekomst is uiteraard niet erg zonnig: de mensch zal tenonder gaan aan de gevolgen van zijn eigen hooghartigheid en egoïsme. Dat concept hebben we natuurlijk al wel vaker voorbij zien komen, het is dan ook niet bepaald origineel te noemen.

Wel ademt de hele cd een mechanische sfeer en is het niet moeilijk je een grijze en computergestuurde toekomst voor te stellen bij het luisteren naar 'Architects of the Humanicide'. Zo'n wereld die je vaak in sci-fi films ziet, dat is de wereld die Herrschaft naar voren laat komen met zijn muziek. De electronica overheersen: veel bliepjes, keyboardpartijen en geprogrammeerde beats. Typische industrial gitaarriffs met een zware sound laten de muziek wel degelijk beuken. Dit echter wel op de electro/ industrial manier, niet 'beuken' zoals we het begrip in de metal kennen. Boem-boem bassdrums uit een kastje met hakkende gitaren en een hoop keyboardgeluidjes.

Nou houd ik op z'n tijd best van wat electro/ industrial en deze cd kan ik in die hoedanigheid zeker waarderen. Het is strak en sfeervol. De beats hadden iets dikker gemogen maar over het algemeen is deze plaat interessant genoeg om zo af en toe eens op te zetten. Favoriet hierbij is het nummer Self Bondage, de vierde track van de mini. Dat is net wat sneller en heaviër.
Best een te pruimen plaat dus. Een lekker tussendoortje voor de mensen die niet vies zijn van een uitstapje naar het electronisch genre op z'n tijd.

Con un'operazione identica a quella per Headworm degli Scald, code666 recupera, distribuisce e promuove un'autoproduzione di una band di cui poi pubblicherà un album.

Un bel colpo per gli Herrschaft, che non suonano grind contaminato da suoni industrial ambient, bensì metal estremo ingentilito (?) dall'electro-dark, o forse electro-dark irrobustita da metal estremo. Questo legame viene stretto anche con certe idee sul progresso tecnologico, secondo le quali esso non sarebbe necessariamente legato a quello politico, sociale, culturale: da qui il contrasto elettronica (asettica razionalità) - metal (irrazionalità). Gli Herrschaft sorreggono uno screaming black (filtrato dal vocoder) con riff post-thrash e ritmiche e ambientazioni prese dalla galassia EBM, come fossero dei Rammstein iniettati di "Dulce Liquido". Premesso che, ma forse sono personalissime idiosincrasie, c'è tanta roba ballabile più interessante in giro, soprattutto non in un vicolo cieco creativo e meno patinata, la sensazione è che gli Herrschaft siano riusciti a combinare due generi, ma che ciò sia stato possibile solo utilizzandone le parti più semplici, dunque quelle più prevedibili. È difficile per chiunque avere competenza, per fare due nomi solo esemplificativi, sia su Front 242 che sui Pantera, eppure durante l'ascolto si riesce a capire con la stessa facilità dove vadano a parare tutti gli strumenti, a causa anche della piattezza ritmica del genere elettronico scelto. D'altro canto questa linearità diviene immediatezza, quindi è certo che un pezzo come “Self Bondage” potenzialmente sia la nuova “Du Hast”. Lo stesso discorso vale per “Apogee”, con un sample vocale che si trova anche in “Imitation” di The Protagonist, dove lo spoken word era di Mårten Kellerman degli Statemachine, altro progetto electro-dark. Se in territori contigui si osservano gruppi mediocri come i Deathstars, allora è pieno diritto degli Herrschaft proseguire il loro percorso, ma è necessario che evitino alcune secche espressive, senza magari perdere quella fruibilità che sembra essere la loro carta vincente. Herrschaft is a newly formed band (late 2004), brainchild of lyricist M.X. He met Max (drummer & member of Sworn) and guitarist Zoe (Splinter). What they brought us on their debut MCD is a five track of what could be labeled as electro black metal. The band will also release their debut full length by the end of the year. On those five tracks, you can hear some spaced out / industrial keyboards, crushing guitars, pounding drums, mid fast paces and sometimes even a bit of a techno beat. The vocals of M.X. are mostly raspy but whispers & spoken parts are also present. I found the raspy ones a bit too screamed with too much distortion and I think the "normal" discrete black metal version much more appropriate since I don't appreciate having someone screaming in my ears. Their music is rather pleasant and melodic, the structure not too complex but the overall feel is pretty futuristic. I enjoyed tracks 3 - 4 (Haunting Torture & Self Bondage) and especially the closing number De Flammes et D'Ombres for its punching beats & crushing tones with French lyrics.

Herrschaft is a talented trio but I would whish for more discrete raspy vocals on their full length.

HERRSCHAFT: Extreme metal for way too extreme people. Described as Electro Black Metal, MCD “Architects Of The Humanicide” is a 22 minute Industrial futurist selfish chaos music.
When we think we are getting into it, they put chaotic elements that, depending on the listener, will give a kick or destroy the musicality. This is a difficult Cd to review you don´t know if you like or hate, but I guess that is what this extreme French group wants. Well, I saw no Black Metal influences (maybe the desire to be hated...), just a pure Electronic futurist sound, that can be played in a metal gig or a rave party. The songs are promising (although the chaotic parts), so I guess in their full-length they will show if we should love them or hate them.
You should hear as an interesting musical tendency. Let´s wait for the CD.

Band francese all’esordio, gli Herrschaft rompono il ghiaccio con un ep in cui pesanti chitarre ritmiche si sposano a una componente sintetica di key, drum machine e abbondante effettistica a filtrare fortemente i suoni, dalla voce alle percussioni naturali.

Soluzioni massicce ma al contempo dalle intenzioni più o meno ballabili, come già proposte da The Kovenant o Rammstein, non sono la novità, ma va ammesso che gli Herrschaft evitano facili plagi o un orientamento gratuitamente pop, mantenendosi su strutture un po’ meno squadrate, nonché più aggressive dei gruppi succitati.

E’ chiaro che ci sono aspetti da migliorare, come lo scream decisamente convenzionale o le trappole della schematicità (pericolosa quando spinge verso lo scontato), specie in vista di un full length, ma a fronte della solidità con cui questo ep è costruito, cesellato e prodotto, e di qualche spunto d’interesse – la vena epica di “De Flammes et d’Ombres” – si può attendere la vera prova del fuoco senza clausole pregiudiziali.

It’s good to see the always intriguing Code666 get off the mark in 2007, and they’ve done so through a triad of disparate releases from tech death crew Tholus (through sister imprint Goregorecords), post-black metal from Holland’s Control Human Delete, and this debut MCD from Paris’ Herrschaft. Architects of the Humanicide is a twenty-three minute glimpse of Herrschaft’s vision of a bleak, post-apocalyptic future (as if there were any other kind), as told through blackened industrial metal. The electro elements take center stage, and although the majority of the material is quite heavy, the riffs typically support the keys and programming, stepping to the front intermittently to provide a more organic metallic battery.

Combining the pneumatic drill press crunch of a Rammstein and the seething, hateful, dark soundscapes and blackened-heart of Skinny Puppy, Herrschaft create dense layers of a cold and mechanical base, and contrast that inhumanity with snarling blackened vocals. The five tracks on Architects of the Humanicide alternate between songs that are more riff driven and ones that seethe with dark, electro-fueled waves. “Apogee”, “Self Bondage” and much of closer “De Flemmes et d’Ombres” all boast heavy, crunching, but quite basic riffs that provide hook and partner with the percussion to deal out hammering aggression that punctuates the substantial programming underneath it. “Apogee” is probably the most effective of the three, “De Flemmes et d’Ombres” the most diverse and atmospheric, while “Self Bondage” is the square, but not unwelcome peg, sporting a practically rave-ready chorus. On the more electro, less metal side, intro track “Rise to the Humanicide” fades in and builds to noisy, screeching crescendo, and “Haunting Torture” is a slow journey that has a creepy tone of self-loathing and hatred established through frequently whispered lyrics and an off kilter clean synth line. It’s probably the least overtly metal track on the album (although “Self Bondage” rivals in that regard), but works quite well by providing a contrast that’s as sure-handed as its surrounding material.

As you would expect, Architects of the Humanicide has the studio polish necessary for this style, so the sound is quite good. Most of the instrumentation, including the vocals, is heavily effected, which contributes to the album’s inhuman, futuristic feel. Although this is critical to achieving the album’s desired character, some metal fans may find Herrschaft leaning a little further toward the electronic side of things than they prefer, but fans of industrial metal should certainly find something to like. The band is working on a full-length that should be available late this year, and it will be interesting to see what they can do with a full album’s worth of material.

Jeune formation de la région parisienne, Herrschaft surprend par le sérieux de sa première production, Architects Of The Humanicide.
Leur musique hybride entre metal et électronique est difficile de comparer à qui que ce soit d'existant, ce qui est plutôt rare vu la foultitude de groupes voguant sur ce terrain-là. Tout au plus pourrait-on dire éventuellement qu'ils se situent dans un style rassemblant des sonorités proches de celles de Suicide Commando auxquelles on aurait ajouté de grosses guitares.
Le tempo lourd et lancinant, les mélodies hypnotiques de "Haunting Torture", ou les riffs ravageurs au tempo brisé de "Apogee" ne rappellent rien de ce que nous connaissons dans la scène metal et présagent sans aucun doute d'un avenir lumineux. Beau premier effort qui nous vaut plein d'espoir pour la suite des aventures.

Les hybrides entre métal et techno sont décidément trop rares, faut dire que la largeur d’esprit n’étouffe ni les métalleux ni les technomen. Dans les années 90 le fameux label teuton Dynamica nous avait offert de bien belles perles dans le genre, mais depuis c’est le calme plat. De temps en temps, on a bien quelques hurluberlus qui se distinguent : les géants Rammstein / Oomph outre-Rhin, et chez nous LS201, Punish Yourself, les Muckrakers. Mais grosso-modo, avouons que le métalleux ne se bouscule pas trop au portillon du beat contagieux. Faut dire qu’on est jamais trop méfiant face aux beats contagieuses (-gieux pardon) tant l’addiction peut être rapide dès lors qu’on y a mis le doigt. Cubanate, Front 242, vous connaissez ? Alors bingo ce trio parisien risque lui aussi de vous infecter à son tour. Inutile de préciser que ces 5 titres sonnent très synthétiques, c’est l’inverse qui étonnerait. Non l’originalité serait à mettre du coté des vocaux, tant ceux-ci bourrés d’effet rappellent immanquablement un registre black-metal. Rythmiquement là aussi, Herrschaft se distingue puisque les sentences assénées par le gang se veulent assez lentes, hypnotiques serait un terme plus adéquate. 1ère prod et voilà déjà un très bon groupe de métal/technoïde, j’oserais juste espérer une augmentation future des bpm, histoire de foutre définitivement le feu aux poudre. >contact : www.h-noise.com

HERRSCHAFT bring something interesting to the table with their 2006 release “Architects Of The Humanicide.” The production of the release contains a fair mix of high, low, and mid-range noises accentuated with distortion but still intelligible and pristine enough to break down and distinguish the individual components of the overall sound. Many instruments, although well-executed, run through so many effects and processors that the human element seems somewhat void, but all in all the release will maintain the attention of most listeners throughout its brief duration.

The five tracks that comprise “Architects Of The Humanicide” begin with promise, often intricately woven into a catchy drum beat, but each fails to bloom into a grander and more dynamic extreme. “Haunting Torture” best illustrates HERRSCHAFT’s captivating and hypnotic appeal, but as with other tracks it leaves listeners with an empty and unfulfilled vibe in the sense that the artists could deliver more. “Self Bondage” offers a poor attempt at combining influences from NINE INCH NAILS, DOWNLOAD, and other Industrial giants, thus juxtaposing the release’s heaviest hitter alongside its least innovative effort. Although many listeners will simply delete the title from their hard drive, “Self Bondage” will lead others to press the skip button on their CD players as it detracts from the flow of an otherwise intriguing composition.

“Architects Of The Humanicide” offers a short snippet of the band’s potential, and ultimately the brevity of the release saves it from becoming overzealous and hyper-indulgent. By the conclusion of the release most listeners will feel ready to move on, and those who like to keep something different in their collection for a brief glimpse at something fresh will delight in playing this social and commercial-friendly release for others.

Readers seeking something heavy look away.

Herrschafft er ikke, som man skulle tro ud fra navnet, fra Tyskland; i stedet stammer de 4 medlemmer M.X., Max, Zo3 og Mat fra Frankrig. Bandet startede i 2004, og arbejdet på dette minialbum startede året efter.

Musikken kan bedst beskrives ved at nævne dens hovedbestandele: den består af 1 del af det allerældste Rammstein, 2 dele Die Krupps og et skud Prodigy. Det lyder rimelig vildt, og det er det også!
Efter en relativt stille intro brager det løs i et inferno af knaldhårde guitarriffs, synthlyde og electrobeats. Temaet for EPen er en fremtidsvision for året 2052, hvor mennesket på højden af sin teknologiske udvikling har skabt en fuldstændig steril verden, helt fri for urenheder.
Denne dystre vision er ikke svær at forestille sig når man hører de 5 numre igennem. Stemningen er kold og kynisk, og billeder af et totalt styret samfund uden menneskelighed dukker op på den indre videoskærm.
Musikken passer således godt til gruppens koncept; det samme gælder for vokalen. Den er hele tiden forvrænget og umenneskelig. Men samtidig er den også meget monoton og MEGET trættende. Det er en skam, for som helhed byder ”Architecs Of The Humanicide” på mange gode ideer. Senere på året har gruppen planer om at udgive et fuldlængde album, og det bliver spændende at høre i hvilken retning de udvikler sig.

HERRSCHAFT "Architects of the Humanicide"
(code 666 -- 2007)

Formée autour d’un ex-Otargos et d’un ex-Splinter, cette formation au patronyme teutonisant œuvre dans un métal indus lourdement lesté d’apparats électroniques. A vrai dire, ceux-ci prennent d’ailleurs souvent le pas sur la base métallique, et pour essayer de cibler la démarche musicale d’Herrschaft (à mes souhaits !), on pourrait imaginer une improbable fusion entre Ministry et Velvet Acid Christ.
Cela donne donc quelque chose de très synthétique, avec des guitares spatiales, une batterie martiale et des vocalises passées au vocoder. Pas si loin des cultissimes ricains de Skrew finalement, ce trio maîtrise son sujet mais les cinq morceaux (dont une intro) ici présents ne permettent pas encore de mesurer précisément son potentiel destructeur.
Cela devrait être chose plus aisée à faire dans un futur proche, puisque son premier album devrait voir le jour avant la fin de l’année. D’ici-là, si vous souhaitez vous faire un avis sur la question, vous savez ce qu’il vous reste à faire !

Herrschaft - Architects Of The Humanicide

Let me first say that before I heard Herrschaft I was not a fan of any bands with industrial tendencies. With that being said Herrschaft's 'Architects Of The Humanicide' may just have changed my opinion a bit. While 'Architects Of The Humanicide' threw me for a loop completely it was a pleasant surprise to hear this album away from all the metal thats usually blasting from this stereo.

To begin the album starts with song 'Rise To The Humanicide' which builds in about 1 minute of buzzing and beeping to an almost Techno (Electro for some) sort of beat with sinister sounding vocals thrown over top. When 'Rise...' ends second track 'Apogee' crunches in and delves into a thick soundscape of programming and synth driven riffs. The album doesn't change much from that vibe though. Much of 'Architects Of The Humanicide' is fueled on by the synth wrap around guitar work, but a good base is formed by the vocal styling of M.X.. Which seems to be a mix of really processed and effected vocals with a snarling almost completely black metal delivery.

As the album progresses in time, the songs get longer and a little more complex, adding female vocals and sometimes allowing the guitars to be brought to the forefront of the music instead of relying solely on following the synth around like a lost child. Closer 'De Flammes Et D'ombres' really raises the bar for the entire E.P. and builds a very nice crescendo to the end of its six minutes that ends the album perfectly. At the end of it all though this very short five song E.P. from these French industrial black metalers serves as a very fine effort for Code666 Records. They always seem to be putting left field releases out and this is absolutely no different for them.

'Architects Of The Humanicide' is a very solid E.P. and really leaves you wanting more from Herrschaft.

Well like me I'm sure the first thing you did was look at the name and assume they were German. Perhaps you even listened to it right after and assumed that it was German, having quite a bit of KMFDM and Rammstein to it. Then you did some reading and found out they were French? Yeah, I couldn't believe they weren't German either, but who cares because this is good stuff right here. Picture a mix of Rammstein and KMFDM mixed with horribly distorted vocals that remind me of Ogre of Skinny Puppy after his vocal chords were dipped in battery acid. They have electronic drums pounding a militaristic beat backed up by a pummeling guitar sound. This is not all aggressively noisy, as it lightens up to a degree here and there. However it can't really relax all that much due to the vocals. This is angry, noisy industrial metal that I can't get enough of. This is just harsh. The only problem I have with this is the length. Five songs and a mere twenty-two minutes. I need more. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go on a cross-country shooting spree. I have the perfect soundtrack for it, thanks to Herrschaft.

Premier Mini-CD autoproduit par les parisiens d'Herrschaft,
Je les ai découvert grâce au Myspace d'un groupe dont je suis fan (CNK). Après avoir visité leur Myspace, je suis allé sur leur site web perso (pas mal par ailleurs), j'ai écouté les premières minutes de leur mini CD, et j'ai décidé d'acheter cet album les yeux fermés rien qu'en ayant écouté que les premières secondes de celui-ci. (Et oui il n'est pas possible de le trouver sur des moyens P2P).

Le genre de musique? Je le définirai (sans objectivité) en tant qu'industrial Black Metal.

Rise of the humanicide: Premier titre d'introduction extrêmement puissant mais qui se calme sur la fin... On se croirait face un dictateur qui hurle sur ses sujets (esclaves? l'humanité?)... Court et éfficace... Peut être trop court.

Apogée: Second titre, début très rythmé, avec de beaux riffs de guitare, un petit son industriel qui me plait. Et puis une voix en anglais avec un bel accent français horrible qui parle... Et puis ca chante ca hurle c'est bon et ça part, les changements de rythmes sont excellents. Les grunts sont de toute beauté...C'est largement le titre le plus intéressant de ce mini opus de Herrschaft et aussi le plus black...

Haunting Torture: plus posé, plus lent, plus électro, plus triste. Les grunts sont la, une musique bien pour se reposer après l'Apogée ...Wink

Self Bondage:Très electro très industriel aussi... Welcome to slavery, je crois qu'elle dit au début la madame Wink. Les riffs de guitare sont aussi excellents. L'utilisation de différentes voix et d'effets sont magnifiques et rendent cette chanson l'une des plus intéressantes de ce mini-CD.

De Flammes Et D'Ombres: Bon je l'aime bien même si elle n'est pas aussi efficace que la précédente. Je pense que c'est parceque c'est la seule chanson qui soit en français. Posée et lente elle est qd meme de toute beauté...

L’électro metal n’ayant guère le vent en poupe dans nos contrées, il est donc assez plaisant de voir de nouvelles formations pratiquant ce style musical émerger au sein de la scène française. C’est le cas d’Herrschaft qui nous intéresse ici et dont la création remonte à la fin de l’année deux mille quatre. Les parisiens nous proposent avec cet Architects Of The Humanicide leur tout premier enregistrement au contenu fort convaincant.

Comme indiqué en préambule, le trio évolue ici dans les sphères de l’électro metal et du metal industriel. L’on peut rapprocher d’une certaine manière le travail des franciliens à des formations telles que The Kovenant, je pense plus particulièrement à l’album Animatronic sans que l’on ait ici une vulgaire copie, ou bien encore à Rammstein et, à certains égards, à Ministry, notamment pour ce qui est du riffing du guitariste Zoé. Herrschaft fait ici la part belle à des riffs acérés à l’exécution d’une précision chirurgicale et mécanique. L’on doit d’ailleurs souligner le bon travail effectué par Zoé, d’autant que l’ossature des compositions repose très souvent sur ses riffs. C’est surtout que ces derniers apportent vraiment une certaine vigueur à chaque titre, leur efficacité n’est point à démontrer, en dépit même de leur simplicité, à l’instar de ceux sur Self Bondage. Qui plus est, son travail demeure toujours dans un registre purement métallique, car, et c’est même à souligner, le propos musical du trio est à la fois puissant et diablement entêtant, sans non plus se livrer aisément, l’on s’approche même souvent de l’extrémisme musical.

Bien évidemment, s’adjoignent à cela de nombreux apports synthétiques, avec à la clef moult samples, lignes de claviers et nappes synthétiques, donnant cet aspect résolument moderne à la musique d’Herrschaft. Ces derniers sont utilisés à très bon escient, que ce soit sur les introductions comme sur Rise To Humanicide ou bien De Flammes Et D’ombres, que sur quelques breaks, et bien entendu en accompagnement des guitares et de la batterie. Les mélopées de claviers sont vraiment bien trouvées, l’on ne tombe même aucunement dans une affligeante niaiserie, et s’impriment facilement dans votre mémoire. L’autre bon point concernant les claviers, c’est qu’ils font jeu égal avec les guitares, le tout étant bien dosé, et, finalement, les premiers ne viennent nullement annihiler l’effet des secondes. A La batterie, Max alterne entre parties de batterie "naturelle" et loops, donnant ainsi cet aspect hybride à la musique, même si la production ne lui rend pas entièrement justice. Ses patterns très robotiques apportent bien évidemment cette touche mécanique à la musique, quand il ne vient pas s’épancher dans des rythmes très proches de l’électro, avec quelques beats.

Loin d’être redondantes, les compositions de ce mini album sont assez variées, avec toujours de très bons arrangements. Le groupe évite l’écueil du monolithisme rythmique variant entre titres up tempo et d’autres dans une veine mid tempo. Le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est qu’il est tout aussi à l’aise dans les deux registres: les titres rapides sont tout bonnement imparables, notamment Apogée, les plus lents dégagent parfois une certaine pesanteur et une atmosphère inquiétante sans toutefois se départir de leur puissance. Maître de cérémonie, M.X. assure une bonne prestation faite de hurlements saturés assénés tout le long des vingt deux minutes que dure cet opus. Au final, l’effet est assez malsain, tant l’on se fait maltraiter par ce dernier, et ce ne sont pas les quelques accalmies, où ce dernier chuchote de temps à autres comme sur Haunting Torture, qui vont changer la donne. La production est de très bon aloi, mis à part pour les quelques griefs évoqués plus haut concernant la batterie. En fait, le seul défaut que je puis formuler vis-à-vis de cette réalisation, c’est sa coute durée, qui est assez frustrante.

Au final, Herrschaft s’en tire avec les honneurs avec ce premier et bon enregistrement. Les parisiens y sont même très convaincants dans un domaine musical qui est pourtant très casse-gueule tant l’on y frise souvent le ridicule ou bien encore le clonage musicale éhonté. De tout cela il n‘en est nullement question sur cet opus, tant le trio propose une musique de qualité, à la fois puissante, moderne et très bien arrangée. Il va sans dire que cet Architects Of The Humanicide est recommandable et que le futur du groupe s’annonce sans nul doute des plus prometteurs.
