He's soooo metal.....

Any exposure for metal on mainstream tv is good for metal music.. and good for metal means good for business guys..

EDIT: What song did grohl write on Down to Earth? Neither he nor Zakk are credited on anything on the wiki page...

Also in america .... we need to give some credit to Jimmy Kimmel for allowing metal to be played on his show quite often:

It may not be "our" kind of metal ... but it happens quite often. This just happens to be the shit state of metal in america :(

The guy is trying to make metal more mainstream then it is. Why get on him for that?

I don´t think he´s pahetic because of that, but because he´s such a dumb hypocrite. He calls Foo Fighters "a fuckin' candy-ass girl band" and then goes to American Idol? What a whinning bitch. Quoting Cartman:

"Nobody is intimidated, actually, everyone realizes that people that are so needy for attention they need to dress up and be as loud as possible are you guys and 16 year old girls. Just want to let you know, you're fucking fags"

eww that asking alexandria performance was awful. That was like a local show.

and thank you MindMunch! That's exactly the scenario that set me off about this because I remembered that whole thing with Dave Grohl.

i always thought this was a great performance... it's also really good exposure for that "metal" genre.

WTF, I thought that was ridiculously awesome in every conceivable way - maybe because there are times I wish more than anything that I was born in like 1967 so I could come of age when metal was dominating the mainstream, but I thought that was a totally unapologetic, in your face performance of a fucking classic song. And sorry, but I see no hypocrisy in saying what he did about the Foo Fighters and going on American Idol, because he didn't compromise his playing, appearance, or showmanship in any way, which by my definition means he in no way sold out; I say bring metal back to the mainstream as long as there are no compromises, and I saw none here! (but again, I'm a total sucker for 80s metal, which is probably why I loved this so much, a wave of "nostalgia", even if it is for a period I was only an infant during :D)

Could've done without all the trem-picking in the solo though, but at least it wasn't like a little rushed 8-bar thing (once again, no compromises)

This series of idol looks to have been pretty interesting or maybe its just that now Simon Cowell's gone theres nothing to annoy the shit outta me - smug talentless ratpack loving douchebag that he is.

There's actually a lot of really talented people this year. I think in the past, most of these people were turned down before. I've always believed that they picked "dispensable" people to help along the process of who they wanted to win/potentially win. But they had to make sure that this year was good since the big change.

I still think the judges are way too easy on people though. So in a way, I miss Simon but it's like one extreme to another.

+1. I get what you're saying, I'd love to have been born 10-15 years earlier to witness the rise of late 80s/early 90s thrash and groove metal bands (never got the chance to see pantera, QQ).
I would've avoided all the hair, glam, sleaze "metal" stuff though.

Nah man, I fucking love so much of the hair metal; while many bands were just glammy posers who wrote braindead shitty songs (Poison and Cinderalla come to mind, god I hate those bands) so many songs from that era had such genuine ATTITUDE; it was the era of excess, in the form of wailing, expressive guitar solos, pounding drums, and an overall just ROCKIN' songs. I mean, listen to this one, when it kicks in hard at 1:03, it's just so fucking heavy (in, again, a rockin' way), and that solo at 1:22, jesus christ I love this stuff  (and fantastic production too IMO)

I could post so many more, but I know when people post tons of videos I personally never watch a single one  But yeah, I think people hate on hair metal too much mainly (IMO) because of the aforementioned bands, but there was so much awesomeness in the era too IMO (Dokken, Winger, Lynch Mob, even Bon Jovi had some great tunes); I can't believe any metalhead of any kind could watch the Bill and Ted movies, for example, and not just explode in musical boners over how awesomely kickass the hair metal soundtracks are :D

EDIT: Ok, one more, Reb Beach is such an incredible guitariist :D
