You could try what that guy was doing with running a Metalzone right into his interface, and then using Curve EQ to match the spectrum to a 5150 preamp section, and THEN applying impulses. There was barely any difference! The trick is you'd need to get a 5150 to capture the spectrum from, and apply it to the exact same performance with your Metalzone/distortion pedal of choice, so you'd get a nice preset to use every time.
