Ty... WRAT 95.9 in NJ played the whole second disc (Act III, the part with the 60 piece symphony)... tonight. Great Expectations sounded great, although I think they changed the key for the choruses. If I didn't know better, I would think it was Ace on a slightly buzzed night. Ace Thayer did a good job, but I could do without him saying "Everybody shout it now!" in Shout it Out Loud like Ace did. I won't spend any money on KISS as long as they think they can get away with the non-original four lineup. The more that people spend money on it, the more promoters will book it.
Songs like Detroit Rock City and Do You Love Me plodded along. It's one thing when band pick up the tempo live, but slowing down makes it sound like they can't pull it off live. I think that might have to do with the fact that Peter has problems with his shoulders (and is the oldest one at 57). God of Thunder and Black Diamond kicked ass.
All in all, the symphony thing has been done to death, just like Unplugged. I was more impressed with that KISS set than this one. Scorps did the philharmonic thing, Metallica did it, Aerosmith, did. Shit, Deep Purple were the first ones to do it back in the mid '70s. Don't get me wrong... some of it was very good, but to me all I hear when I listen to any new KISS releases is the intro to Money by Pink Floyd. Maybe I'll rent the DVD, but I'm looking far more foward to Visions of the Beast (yes, another band that puts out lots of compilations... but at least the Camp Chaos vids are new), SJR, and the Dave Chappelle DVD.
Off to never never land.
