I think he means that more about the sound of the band. I don't listen to either black metal or CoF, so I don't know if that's valid. But The Absence, for example, are American but make Gothenborg melodeath.

I've also never thought of Alice in Chains as a "grunge" band, either, even though they're usually labelled that way.

Not that it matters for piss in the grand scheme of things, but... FAIL.
