Homegrown Recording Musicians

i record in my basement all the time.i do not have anything on the net to listen to.but i am going in the studio in a couple of months to record an E.P.
i would like to know your guys tips when you are recording at home, anything helps.and what kind of equipment you use.

The most essential component of my recording gear is my computer. I use to use a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder, man the day I went over to recording to the computer was the best thing I ever did. It makes things so simple. Looping and adjusting is a breeze now. I guess the next most essential component is my ripped off music programs....i'm such a bastard!

I have what is called a BR8 which is made by BOSS. It is a 8 track studio recording module that actually allows up to 64 virtual tracks. You record the songs onto 100mb zip disks, which the BR8 has the zip drive built in. This way I can store all my songs on my computer, and easily burn them to CD. I would certainly recommend something like a BR8. I love this item!

You are gonna need some sort of a small mixer to hook up between your guitar and your soundcard. I actually used my old 4 track for a while, till i got a decent little Yamaha Mixer I could use.

I play guitar in a melodic death metal band called Suicidal Seduction.
We will record a demo soon....I´ll put up some mp3´s then

I have and use a Boss DR. Rhythm DR770. It's pretty good all the way around. It has pre-programmed beats(like 400 of them), and you can also make your own beats on it. It would certainly work for heavy metal as well, for I use mine for Rap. But there's all shorts of stuff programmed in ranging from Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Punk, & ofcourse Heavy Metal! I would certainly recommend checking out the Boss stuff for I'd be willing to bet that by now they have one that blows mine out of the water. I'm very happy with mine and it's three years old, so I can only imagine the updated ones they have available now.

My band just put some songs up on our website: www.shadowdemon.us Look under the Music section.

As for recording software, if you are looking for an inexpensive but kick-ass product look at n-Track Studio http://www.fasoft.com/ If you are primarily a musician and don't want to spend a lot of $$ this is a great way to go. If you want a more mainstream, commercial product, though, do check out Sonar from Cakewalk. I use Sonar and would recommend it to anyone that can afford it.
