Hot Soss

Newest haul of hot sauces. Particularly curious about Saddam Insane.

Belated review:

Both the Pickapeppa sauces are terrible. The mild one is like plum sauce or something. The spicy one is like spicy plum sauce or something. I’ve given them several goes now due to the recommendations on here, but nope. Both have a weird sickly sweet thing going on.

The Louisiana Chipotle is quite good, however. Far from the best chipotle I’ve tasted but it has a good amount of smoke & tang.

The others are all tried and true. El Yucateco Black is still the reigning champion.

El Yucateco Black tastes and smells like spicy leather. Absolutely disgusting. Green and red are tolerable .

Picked up some nandos xx hot peri peri sauce a while back. Like that one a lot.

Interesting. Is it the smokiness you don’t like? Do you like chipotle sauce? There are two green El Yucateco sauces btw.

I’ve seen Nandos sauces in the supermarket but I steer clear of them because they’re a shitty fast-food chain and I assume they’ll be rubbish.

Don't you have a specialized shop in the city?

I was in a chilli shop like two days back but if I have to choose between chilli sauce and fresh habaneros, I go for the real shit.

Nah, Münster is unfortunately just slightly too small probably. Then again, Berlin only had one hot sauce shop, so I'm just going to go with my initial inclination and just blame it on the Germans for having zero concept of spicy.

Yeah I’m not big on smoky flavors.

Chipotle is more of a subtle flavor but still I prefer fresh jalapeños and generally not jalapeños hot sauces

Tbh I rarely even like smoked meats and if someone adds liquid smoke to something which is more common here than it should be, I find it fairly repulsive.

Yeah I used to hate smoky sauce, found the smokiness too overpowering, but it grew on me and now I love it.
