How big is the progrockscene in Australia?

Hi all!

I'm just posting a new thread in here, cause I happened to find this forum when I was searching for progressive rock in Australia. I was wondering how the progscene is doing down there. Playing in a Dutch progband myself I could use some advice on Australian webzines and stuff. Can anyone help me?

Hello Keeper Of The Flame,

There are few Australian progressive metal bands as such, but when it comes to supporting International acts, Australia does support some of the bigger name acts for sure.

Most of the prog bands are based in Melbourne, as far as I can see. Have a look at this site:

This is a prog/power radio show in Melbourne and they they have links and info to a lot of prog and power bands on their site. Great show and great guys too!

Yeah screamingsymphony.com is probably the best place to look for info. Or you could have a look through The Metal Guide @ http://www.geocities.com/goreripper

There are a few lessy proggy more melodic metal bands around Aus too like Vanishing Point, Voyager etc. Australia has pretty much every genre covered except there don't seem to be many gothic metal bands around. Not a whole lot of doom either. But thats a different story

theres a lot of fans but not a lot of bands. theres a prog programme on 2nurfm here in newcastle, not like thats any use to you
