i was never satisfied with my bass sound. after i was introduced to the imulses i tought it would nice to record some bass. how did you guys work and how did you make your sound bombastic?

thx in advance

im gonna be honest here and say alot of times, i program the bass.

the specifics don't matter. check out broomstick bass vst. if you've got the right plugins, the "picked fender jazz" bass can sound amazing (each bass is a set of samples of the actual bass recorded at a mastering studio, at different velocities).

they work just like any other bass track, you'll need to compress and eq and overdrive on your own, but they are excellent starting points. they have no 60hz hum, no bad intonation (praise the lord), and 100% control over attack / sustain.

i've found you really gotta watch the velocities going into it (127 sounds like shit, 80 is better) and avoid using the "onboard dsp" provided in the plugin.

but yeah i'll probably get a lot of flak from this and i dont really mind it. it makes me smile a bit wider at the end of the day knowing i dont have a whole shit load of problems to deal with when i go to mix the track.

and people can argue that character will be missing but honestly, after all the pocketing that goes into a good production, the only character left behind is the song and the creativity. and in my opinion thats fine with me and the general public will just hear pure magic.
