How do Droid?

I love my Droid. Pretty mad that it's now half the price of what I paid for it, but that's the way it goes. Like it better than my old iPhone. The amount of free apps is just amazing. Free internet tethering for your laptop is awesome, probably the best thing about it. And the integrated Google maps/navigation is well worth it.

And the new 2.1 voice recognition works almost flawless for me. Whatever I say, it writes. Great for quick texting.

There are tons of different roms you can run, and it can get pretty complicated.

Check out some of this kid's videos to see if it's something you'd be comfortable doing.

I definitely recommend doing it though - it's like a whole new phone, and it's keeping my Nexus1 envy down for the most part.

Is it stable? Does it run hot or anything weird like that?

I've found it to be completely stable. It's overclocked to 528Mhz with no extra heat. The only problem I've had is that my 8Gb SD card died, but I actually think that happened before I rooted.

I'm also using a 2300Mah battery. It adds extra bulk, but I can get through almost 2 days without a charge.

Interesting... i just rooted my phone and I'm experimenting with some different ROMs... I definitely think a battery upgrade would be a smart move for me. I'm using the stock battery and I upped my clock to 528 and the battery level dropped from 50% to 30% after about 2 minutes of messing around with some menus and things...

I got my 2300mAh battery on ebay for about $12, including the "hunchback" battery cover. It seems to make the phone a little more creaky and cheap feeling, but I've dropped it a few times with no damage. It also makes the phone a little thicker, but I actually find it more comfortable in my hands.

Looks like they make a 2850mAh battery as well - I might grab one myself.

Can you PM me the seller you've bought yours from? I'm looking at a bunch of them and they are all different case configs... also, where is the 2850 one you're looking at?

Still have my non-rooted G1. Tried to root it when I got it, but I failed, so I never bothered to try again. Very happy even with the standard version.
