How does it sound?

It's Shugg-ish, but not to the point where it's annoying or dull, or a blatent ripoff.

I think you've got too much high end going on in the OH, and the snare could be more present in the mix/less verb'd, and I'd turn the top mic up a bit.

Otherwise, loving the clean-ish tones and all the layers, great writing!

So I've been mixing a song for too long now, and I don't really know how it sounds.... That happens to me sometimes heh. Here it is: http://www.upload.celtiaproductions.co.uk/uploads/Consistent2.mp3

when mixing for a long time, ignore the overheads
sleep on it
wake up the next day, mix the overheads

if you don't, you will have too much treble and hiss due to compensation of hearing decay increased over the time spent mixing, your hearing will degrade and you will want to hear more treble as you mix

so dont let it fool you and leave them suckers flat at first

I'd agree about the snare needing more phatness. Kick up the lows on the snare EQ to taste, and watch how much more crack you'll get out of it too (that's if you're EQing before the compressor). I've started doing that lately, I like the results. The OH's I'd also agree are a bit thin and could use some work.

joeymusicguy: yeah I guess it's like that, better to leave it dry and sleep on it.. Taking breaks also helps I guess, which I didn't really do haha.. Inetresting when you've been mixing something one day, and then when you listen to it the next day you think "what the hell was I thinking yesterday!??!" :P

I've listened now again with "healthy" ears and I agree to what you say about the OH and snare. Thanks for the criticism!

Great sample! I like the raw and archaic sound of the guitars, perfectly fits the music. My god, which tuning did you use?

Sorry, no professional criticism from my side, I'm just starting to get into this recording thingy

What equipment have you used for recording (the guitars)?

Cool, didn't know that you can get such raw sounds out of Revalver. I downloaded the demo lately but wasn't able to get such decent tones out of it. But I guess your low tuning contributes a lot to the sound.
Which presets did you use? Also the ones from "Nikko" (like everybody else here). :heh:

Cool song btw!

FUCK YEAH MAN! Best all amp sim tone i have heard yet, and the mix as a whole sounds great as well  you gotta fill a guy in on how your getting those tones i have the same software sims and would like to get even close to those tones. come on man break it down lol

id like to add that same thing about the snare aplies to the tons.... they got no body

good writing, specially the end... you got some weird noise going on that "uuummmmm", a weird feedback, i dont know...i liked it

the clean tones are good, nice spacial sound. You just need to get more body out the drums for a more "in the face sound" and less treble in the OH as said before, and also turn it down a bit, IMHO

Yup..
Massili: The "bass" is actually a pitched clean guitar recorded with the singlecoil sound, to get as much attack as possible. I used the Warp guitar plugin (which sucks for guitar, but works for bass haha) on it, and some eq:ing ofcourse. The drums I use are just various samples I've got my hands on from time to time.. The snare is from Nevermores album "This godless endeavor".

This is a clip with only Revalver II guitars: http://www.carnalgrief.com/temp/test22.mp3

I used Revalver II and Amplitube 2 on "Consistent"..

Here are my Revalver settings by the way:

Amazing! all done with amp simulation software eh? damn...

I agree about the snare... but the rest sounds to fine to me so far, will there be vocals on this one?

also, did you use battery? DFH? what did you use for those drums?

And what is that really low frenquency i hear at 3:10 through the clean part?

Good job man, this reminds of CJWall's stuff a bit, which is a pretty big compliment eh? ;)

Awesome sound and playing man!!!
Did you use some kind of preamp/DI box between guitar and audio interface? Can you tell me your "analogic" chain? Guitar, PU, interface, etc...
