i.e. talked them up, included in mixes, played in the car or over the network at the office, so that you personally made new fans and put extra cha-ching in Opeth's pockets?

for me, uhhh, about 17.

one... but he didn't get into it, he's more of a jazz fan... other than him, I see no chance that any of my friends could like any metal

Well, I have tried to almost every friend there is.
But only one or two of them got really in to it. One of them loves the damnation record as much as I do. Some other loves it all.

I even got one that likes country and old pop music to like one song, can you imagine? (the leper affinity).. :kickass:

I've converted about 5 people into hardcore fans of Opeth, but for people whom I've introduced them to Opeth's music and they've really liked it is about 30.

Whenever I introduce someone to Opeth, they look at me like I must live on a city on the moon...or something...then they hear the death growls....:erk:

HAHAA I know what you mean. I was playing Drapery Falls at work at my business in front of customers and everything was fine, they enjoyed listening to the song. However when the 5 minute mark hit, they were like WTF! that was obviously the time in the song when the growls kicked in.

They were enjoying it fine up until then, but I guess they just don't understand

Haha, did you get the joke about the city on the moon???

Ive tried just about every friend. One guy was into metal, he didn't like
Opeth because he thought they where too "Epic Sounding". Another friend
didn't like them but liked Mastodon instead. One guy loved Opeth and went
to two of there shows, but he dissapeared when he got married.

Roskilde Festival 2006....Denmark

In good mood...on my way from the tent area...(to the ARENA scene where OPETH were going to play )....i meet a crowd of 5 people. As a joke i said...come ..join me for "the gig" of the festival. After some fun talk...they joined me ...and we saw OPETH together. They just freaked OUT... They are all BIG OPETH FANS TODAY....:notworthy

eh, I usually make classic rock, prog rock, etc. a bigger priority for introducing to people, since it's usually more accessible. Most bizare of the people who I've introduced to Opeth was a Linsay Lohan fan - she even enjoyed their heavy material.

my two sons (aged 6 and 8), my ex-hb (the look on his face was priceless while listening to Atonement, awaiting the noise he was expecting. he liked the song. then I let him listen to Master's Apprentices and Baying of the Hounds - and he liked it!) and the 14yr-old daughter of my best friend and she loved it! so, 4 fans in 1 week!

I made a buy it if you like it cds for family and friend on Xmas and did an Opeth one.....I put all mellow tracks.... Damnation and others like Creedence...first....then hit them at the end with Deliverence, Ghost of Perdition, and Leapers Affinity at the end with Isolation Years as the last track ..I gave this to a mix of people that ranged from very conservative to constuction workers....and every one of them liked it!!!!!
