We have to kill prarie dogs and coyotes because they destroy our cattle herd if they go unchecked. Coyotes kill the baby calves, and prarie dogs dig thousands of holes that cows fall in and break their legs/backs/necks. I don't hunt anything that doesn't cause a financial burden to my families business. We have plenty of deer and antelope, but they don't do anything to me, so I leave them alone.

Trust me . . . prarie dogs and coyotes are not even close to being endangered where I live.

To be honest, shooting them with a gun will never put a dent in the prarie dog population. We'll probably need to hire somebody to take care of them . . . kind of like in Caddy Shack.

I think a lot of people misunderstand this. One of my favorite animals is the coyote and I hate to think about any harm coming to them, but in your situation, it has to be done. Course if it were up to me, I'd start an Adopt-a-Coyote program, but I really don't think anyone would participate.
