I was wondering what kind cycles you guys suck out of the vocals with HPF and LPF. I have been defaulting at around 200 cycles for awhile and have been second guessing myself as of latley. And were would you say the brunt of the vocals should sit? 400-1000? This is in refrence to growling/screaming?

It depends entirely on the vocalist. As you may know, most people don't sound the same ;)

But as for HP/LP, I've found the method of cutting off in steps until you hear it starting to affect the original sound, and then cutting back a little bit.

Say, start filtering at 100 Hz, turn the filter off and listen the original, turn it back on and then off, then move to 125 Hz, turn the filter on, and compare to original, and so on.

Are you talking about mixing? If so, don't go any higher than 150Hz. If you're talking about tracking, use the mic rolloff if needed.

Most of the vocal information is within 150Hz - 3Khz.
