This is a topic that is very important to me. Pretty much the best burger combination I've ever had is blue cheese/Gorgonzola and fried onions. Bacon is optional. Its mostly important that you don't over cook the meat. Anything more than medium rare is a waste.

A bar near me has burgers that are like orgasms of the mouth, i use to get one with the above almost weekly.

I usually like it med rare. But some places make those really thin patties that are charred around the edges (Steak N Shake) and those are awesome too.

as far as i know umami is just the japanese word for the fifth sense of taste, which would translate to something like "savoury"

so burgers by default are always high in "umami" flavour. that said, swedish burger chain MAX has something they call the GRAND DE LUXE UMAMI and it is pretty tasty. not sure what they put in the sauce but it is "umami"

see i would usually not agree with putting eggs on a burger but if you make it a full-blown breakfast burger, that would be a different and very tasty thing.

Seriously, it sounds weird as shit but just try it. Make sure there is bacon too. It's one of the best things I've ever eaten and I rarely make a burger without peanut butter, bacon, and a fried egg anymore.

Put anything on my burger and I'll eat that shit. However, I'm a big fan of either bbq sauce/bacon/cheddar or stuffed with blue cheese crumbles and topped off with buffalo sauce.

Also, this should be "HOW TO BUILD A BURGER???" In stead of "make." Usually if I grab a burger at some restaurant, the meat is typically not seasoned enough or at all. I get fucking pissed if it's a frozen burger. Fuck them shenanigans.
