How to make space for other instruments in the mix ?

I dont know what people mean by saying, "clear some space for the guitar / bass" what does that mean and how do i do it ?
please help

EQ. Clearing space for bass means cutting low end out of guitars, making room for kick means cutting selective frequencies in other instruments to allow certain frequencies to dominate.

You should use your ears in the first place and use the spectrum analyzer as a helping tool.

No, you need ears. And basic knowledge of where the zones are in human hearing. Sub bass, bass region, low mids, high mids, treble and presence areas. Some information can be discarded, like sub bass information on every instrument except of course kick and bass, presence can be filtered on guitars, the technique goes beyond anything any of us can tell you. You need to do a lot of reading and experimenting.
