Hey all,
I'm currently doing some research for some things I am working on and
I was wondering what do you like to see in a Progmetal album?
Give me all the details, whether it's keyboards, heavy riffs , emotional balads.
All you can think of please.
Thanks
Is going to be pretty stupid but I like my prog metal PROGRESSIVE. I mean a couple of rythm changes or a couple of odd signatures doesn't make something progressive.
And the line between progressive rock and prog metal sometimes can be blurrish.
Dream Theater is undoubtedly prog metal, but so was Rush (IMO). On the other hand Yes, ELP, Goblin, Pink Foyd are progressive rock and so are The Flower Kings, Transtlantic, The Tangent.
So where Toxic, Shadow Gallery, Spastic Ink, Imperium, Moon Of Steel, Dunwich, Coroner lie? Where and when is progressive separated from just technical?
To me in the end is a gut feeling, something is prog and some doesn't, sadly I can reduce it to an equation.
