Hughes&Kettner Puretone

I've always loved this amp.
not a big H&K fan in genaral, but the first time I played this head I just fell in love....

I', really close (about a cunthair distance...the japanese cunthair I mean...like really thin and smooth) to finally pulling the trigger and getting one for the studio.

anyone else impressed with the tone of this little beast? (I know, the price is just ridiculous)

I've never played an H&K, btw, but everything I've read (mostly on here) leads me to believe that despite the retarded prices, they're really not all that special. Does anyone have any experience with any others?

the puretone-tone is difficult to describe...
it's something that you feel, I sat in front of the cab, hit a string and was lost. it seems like it kicks your chest before you even touch the string, it's incedibly direct and punchy....I couldn't help but loving it...
granted, it's way overpriced (for the features), but you have to feel it....and I'm sure you will when you're sitting in front of it (I really loath all other H&K products).

I've just been offered a trade....not spending actual cash makes decisions like this easier


other than that...
attax was ok for a practice-amp-
the H&K creammachine, metalmaster and bassmaster are awesome (around 100-200 used)...the heads (triamp, duothingy etc) are just mediocre IMO.
but the puretone....notworthygoggly:notworthy

attax80, valvestate style amp, was great, reliable, pretty gritty tone, very ballsy! wud like to get hold of an older model one which i used to use!

The Duotone is a great amp. I don't think it's mediocre at all, but H&K's are expensive! I haven't tried the Puretone.

Have you tried other Class-A amps like this?

well...for the money there are at least 5 amps I'd buy before I buy a Duotone.
it doesn't suck, it's a good amp, but in that pricerange it's definitely not th best amp (again...comparing to other amps in that same range)...thus mediocre

Wow, Lasse. That clip even sounds great on my MacBook speakers. Especially the beginning.

Helps of course that the player is good

That style of head is worth the cash! Is that just rolling back the volume knob? If so, total trainwreck style awesomeness, but sounds even more usable style wise. Cheers for the headsup on this guy!
