I bet a lot of the people on this forum are musicians.

I hardly ever do, only for the few covers I've made so far. I've heard Jonas does it wrong as well, and that that was one of the reasons they had to quit with October Tide, and that they can only play one 'classic' at gigs (it's always Murder  )
I have no idea how to push the air from me belly, I only use the throat, nothing more.

Jonas wrecked his throat during the recoring of rain without end or something like that, I have no idea if he was doing it wrong, I seriusly hope not cuz I'm able to do something that sounds just like the stuff on DoDS. Jonas's vocals kick ass! As for the growling part: breathing with the stomach is when you breathe, you see its your belly that moves, not your chest, then, you use the stomach-muscles to push air through the throat, it's hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it. After a while, your throat will get used to growling and you can do louder growls, it's really cool, but the neat stuff, like Bloodbath is really hard because of the bass...

Katatonia is definently a great band for all ears, but to the musicians ear it is even more sweet.

What instruments do u play? do u play in a band?

I play guitar (Jackson black flying V with invader pickup, and a Gibson SG with DiMarrzios)
and the Throat (few different stylings, mellow, rough, despair)

I am the singer song writer for a band in Little Rock, Arkansas called Nongrata.

What band are you in?
You're from Little Rock? Wow, I'm about 15 minutes south in Bryant. When/where do you play next?

Anyway, I've played Trumpet for about 5 years and I just started playing guitar. (Jackson JS20). I'm currently in no band, but if my friend and I can find a bassist and drummer, we'll probably start one next summer.

I've always thought there are some effects used on Mike's vocals on the Bloodbath records.

Anyway, thanks for the belly instructions :)

Well, some effects are used, but I've heard live-recordings of Opeth, and I must say: Mikael's growling is totally insane! The guy is a growler god, I mean, it's a little less clean than on the records, but it still sounds almost just like the fucking Opeth cd's!!!

yeah, there's so many talent in here...

as for myself, i've been playing guitar for 5 years...
lately i've been a lot into high tech stuff: korg electribes, syntesizers, drum boxes...

i can also sing quite "acceptable" :D

i've got an black-blue obsidian fender stagemaster all full with stickers.
my first guitar was a washburn lyon series, which i bough from a friend...this one's now signed by all IN FLAMES guys :headbang:

my first band was "jotunheim" lots of work, lots of fun, but not a single fuckin song haha

i'm now on my own, check out my www stuff to find out more...

-oh and i'll check out that NONGRATA band...
sounds really interesting...

-phyre,cerulean! you're good musicians

Ah but I've seen them live twice.

I'm the friend to which Psychomantis was referring. I'm anxious to hear Nongrata's sound clips, but for some reason my computer is being annoying and won't play them. I'll do my best to make it to your next show. I didn't realize there were any decent metal bands around here; most bands seem to be emo or metalcore around Bryant. Nobody can play their instrument for shit around my school either, making starting a band much harder than one might think.

Oh yeah, the thread topic.

I play guitar. I've got a Schecter C-1+ with a Bill Lawrence 500XL humbucker in the bridge and a stock Duncan Designed in the neck. I also play a Hamer Standard with stock pickups and black with flames finish. I play through a Crate MX120R, but hope to buy a Peavy 5150 2X12 combo eventually; though I probably won't, considering the rate at which I buy cds.

holy shit another Arkansan who appreciates the incredible guitar skill and song writing prowess of the immortal Chuck Schuldiner. ya guys plz come out and introduce urselves if u get a chance, I too am sick and tired of just about every heavy band in Arkansas swaying towards the HaRdCoRe style. to each his own, just one mans opinion its just not my bag.

But ya, my lead guitarist is insane, I honestly have not met a lead player as good as he is in real life. I play rhythm guitar well and can sing with melody as well as rough. (I love playing through all my favorite Death tunes in my spare time, like Killing Spree, Suicide Machine, Vacant Planets...too many to list.)

Guitar (an ESP M-252BB, if anyone interested in the model). I'm a member of a heavy metal group called Dark Illusion, which soon is about to be renamed. For now we only do covers, but there are many ideas that will be formed into new songs. Maybe we'll have them recorded and upload them over here. Style: a mixture of nevermore-opeth-katatonia, i think...

I play guitar and have done so for 3 years. Lessons since 1.5 year or so with a guy who is undoubtley one of Swedens most skilled guitarists. I play a PRS Custom24 and me and my bassplaying friend have a project which lately have gone towards a mix of uhm.. katatonia, porcupine tree and meshuggah maybe. Or not like that at all actually

I am a VERY PASSIONATE bass player :Spin: (and I play various other instruments too, but not too well... :D )
I'm in half a band with a great guitar player and a funny drum computer. I wish we had a full line up 'cause I'd love to play our songs live!

hehehe, and the list continues with me:

1st I had Piano lessons for 5 years, but I was a child in that time.

I play Guitar now since 9 years, and I think I am really good on it.
Well, but I cant call an electric guitar my own. I only have an Acoustic Guitar, thats all. Everything else is too expensive. I am very good with the acoustic classic stuff. But cant play Solo's on the electric guitar very good.
All stuff that I ever created was written on Acoustic Guitar FIRST!
Also the death metal riffs, hehee.
I use instruments of friends to record the stuff later.

I had a Melodic Death Metal band for 5 years (1995 - 2000) where I played Guitar/Bass/Synth + Vocals. i also did some Drums in that time.
The name was DARK BEFORE DAWN (not -dark AT dawn- hehe)
You can hear a song here:
http://wghbh.de/heiko/sae/mp3/dark_before_dawn-128.mp3

Since 2000 I only make Solo Music, which is more emotional and much slower.
You can here 2 songs here: The band is called SABEYO

you can here my screaming vocals on a katatonia cover song that you can download here:

I am doing a homepage right now, and searching for people who help me with the booklet of the upcoming demo-cd (Valafar, I really would appriciate your help!! Really really really!!)

@HOBO - Congratulations! In Spritside Dreaming is a really interesting band!
