I bought a 5150 tonight.

Bah People buy 5150's

Because it's prettier.
Because it's hippier.
Because it's less expensive. :
Because it gives you "the prestige".
Because lots of succesful studios use 'em.
Because 5150's can do things that other amps can't do.
:Saint: :heh: :muahaha: ;) :OMG:

no really congrats can't wait to get me one

I bought a beat up 5150 this week my own self, well cheap. It has an intermittent problem or two that might be serious or might go away with a simple tube swap. I've got 30* days to decide if I want to take a chance on repairs or return it and pay more for a less buggy one who knows how far in the future.

Current / former 5150 owners : what sort of problems (if any) have you had with yours, and what did it cost to suss out?

Congrats! Hey, I would keep the blue voodoo around too, I've heard it's no slouch. Dude, now that you've got the amp, you have to get this pedal: Maxon od808. I picked mine up last night, and my other stomp boxes are going on the shelf!

:kickass:

Yeah I am gonna try my tube king first, but I am considering one ot those also (especially since tube kings are getting pretty hard to find).

Anyone know the diff between the maxon 808 and the ibanez 808?

The Maxon 808 is actually based on the ibanez TS10, not the TS808

I would have kept the BV (the clean is better than the 5150 IMO but whatever) but I needed the doug for the new head and the other guitarist in my band needed a head (he was looking at solid state!).

Very nice! I've owned one of the FJA modded ones, but it had the clarity mod and some other crap in addition to the bias mod. I love the bias mod, but didn't care for the others.

Yeah I haven't really figured out what to do with that mod. Can I ajust it safely? I will probably just call FJA up on moday.

Why is it upstate NY seems to have the top mod companies in the USA and maybe the world? I mean I have only heard of these 2 companies, anyone know of any others?

The head worked fine at the store the two days I tried it, but was priced so low I assumed it had problems.

First time I powered it up at home, no sound came out either channel unless I cranked both Pre and Post to 10, and even then it was no louder than leakage from a pair of headphones across the room.

Cycled it off and back on again. Full, normal volume for about a minute, but then it faded to about 1/3 of its initial volume.

Off and back on again. The volume stayed steady for 10+ minutes and the sound quality seemed okay on single notes, but chords sounded woofy and indistinct regardless of Pre Gain or eq settings, as if I had switched from the bridge pickup to the neck without realizing it. (Yes, I checked. :goggly: )
