I Bought a Used Tremoverb! Questions

Well I do play pretty much exclusively metal, but my feel on a cab is it affects more the mix-friendliness and overall frequency distribution of a tone, but the "character" of a tone comes from the head, so I'm pretty certain your Marshall would definitely sound as old school as ever if you put it through a Recto cab; it's just a great cab with an excellent frequency balance for anything remotely heavy/distorted IMO!

ok cool, thanks for the help, I'll check one out.

Hey metaltastic, would it be possible, if you've got time, to record a short guitar riff with and withou the tube screamer, using the settin on the mesa that you've shown here?

That'd be nice.
thanks

Sure, I'm gonna do a big batch of re-amping tomorrow, so I'll throw that in!

Cool, thanks a lot man.

Anyway, here is a short clip of my mesa (not cranked at all though...) and the riff isn't metal, the drums are fake and were done fast just for the test, nothing is eq'd or compressed, the bass was a pbass played through a vintage SVT, the overall volume is pretty low too so you'll have to turn the volume up on your speakers.

I didn't take the time to mic the cab at the sweatest spot as possible, I just put a sm57 on the edge of the dust cap, I was just recording to test different eq setting on the amp and this one was one of the 2 better ones.

I think it sounds ok, nothing mid blowing though.
Let me know what you think.

I don't have direct experience with the Maxon OD808 and the Rectifier, but I think the Maxon OD808 doesn't quite cut as much lows as I'd like it to compliment a Rectifier. I've only heard the OD808 with a 6505+ (my ex-guitarrist's) and I think it works with that amp well, but someone from another board suggested something like the TS-9 or the OD-9 which cuts more lows for the Recto. It makes sense to me.

Hey man, not bad, though a bit on the raw/raunchy side, which might've been what you were going for (bass is too loud though) - here's that test you asked for though dude:

I think a TS would be just the thing for your amp! ;) However, I hear the same 6k fizz in your clip that I've been struggling to deal with with my 2 ch. Recto - shootout between a 2 ch., 3 ch., and Roadster DEFINITELY coming soon!

Yeah I didn't really mix the little clip.
I tried to get a heavey tone that could work for pretty much anything, a little bit raw like you said though, next time I'm crank to master up to 7o'clock or so and back the gain off a little bit.

I had a 3ch recto before I got the tremoverb, me and the ex tremover owner did a straight trade, he wanted more gain and I wanted less fizz, I think we both had what we wanted in this trade.

The 3ch was like a tremoverb with the modern channel split into 2 channels, one with the low end "crunch" and one with the hi gain distortion, it sounded kindda cool but there was always a little something missing imo.

The fizz is another problem with the recto, it's a dark amp and if you want it to be clear sounding it gets fizzy, it's pretty sensitive.
I'll need more time with it to get rid of that, if it's possible at all...

In your TS clips I was expecting a little bit more difference but I can clearly hear how it soften some of the high, it makes them more even, pretty cool.
Thanks a lot for the clips.
BTW, how much do you crank your amp (master volume)?

Well since I have to share my space with my parents, I can't get it nearly as loud as I'd like, so I'd say it's at "starting to get painful in the room" levels (though I have the cab in the other room thanks to my 40+ ft. speaker cable)

okok, I asked cause with mine, it seems to sound fuller when I keep the master under 10:30 o'clock, past that point it has less bottom and less high, it becomes a little bit too midly...

Marcus, do you still have the Tremoverb settings you had previously posted in this thread? I'm going to try one out tomorrow and was looking for a quick reference setting.

Thanks for posting the settings! I'm lovin this amp:headbang: I actually already have it set almost exactly like that. The only difference is I have the presence at about 10:30 or 11:00.

Right now I'm still using my XXX cab. I'm selling some cymbals this week and getting a Mesa OS cab,
