They often do. They'll come up with a really great and intriguing idea, and then completely throw it in the shitter. In addition, their characters have so little lasting appeal, so they bog their characters down with so much continuity and bullshit that they need to retcon them. Happenstance hits a marvel character and then what? They're expected to just be heroes.
