Ok guys, after lots of work I finish my band's album.

The Band is called Poema Arcanvs; and the album "Timeline Symmetry" is to be released around september this year.

The album was finished in February, so I guess now I'm ready to receive some criticism in order to improve my recordings in the future. So far I'm quite satisfied with the result (specially considering it is my first real production), though of course I already notice some things that could have been improved. That will be for the next album I do, for sure.

So, please guys, any criticism will be more than appreciated (and that's the producer of the album speaking, not the musician)

go ahead! :headbang:

i´ll not critic your work, but there were some cymbals that i didn´t like the sound.... ill leave to someone qualified ...
Nevertheless i will say that i enjoyed the track and would listen to more if u had it available.
i enjoy this style :)

I really like the bass tone. What's the details on that?

Spector Custom Legend 4 (I believe)---> maxon OD808--> Marshall Jackhammer Distortion (on OD mode) --> Ampeg SVT4 Pro---> Ampeg 8x10 refrigerator.

AKG 414 --->RNP--->Fireface 800
Senheiser E602 --->RNP--->FF800
SM57--->FF800 (using the fireface pre).

I also split the signal, sending a clean DI (before any pedals) right into the Fireface's instrument input.

The DI was heavily compressed and lo-passed (around 600-800 Hz i guess), and thus all the lowend you hear comes from that DI, while the miced tracks were the opposite: hi-passed around those same frequencies, so the mids and highs come from the miced-distorted tracks.

Actually the 3 mic approach was "just because I can", and I guess I could have gotten similar results keeping only the 414 track, or maybe the 57.

At first I tried to keep some lowend from the miced tracks to mix with the DI, but it kinda blurred the clean DI lowend, so I just went radical: all the lows from the clean DI, mids and highs from the distorted-miced tracks.

Here are the studio reports with pics in case you want to take a look on how a ghetto album is produced :) ... scroll down for the first report

Thanks for your comment ... well, I was going for a super sparkling cymbal sound, and my reference was Queensrÿche's "Empire" (I know, impossible ...hahaha) ... maybe I went overboard with that ... I guess for me only time will tell, but I'll have your comment in mind for the next time.

There you will find this ("This Once Long Road") and another song ("By the Cliff"), plus a demo version of yet another one ("Raven Humankind") in case you want to listen ... myspace sound, BTW :puke:

Well well, fancy meeting a fellow Chilean here in the forums :p

The new record seems to be really good, I'll be looking forward to it and to see you guys live in Santiago.

Poema Arcanvs la lleva ;-)

Yeah, actually there are a couple more fellow chileans lurking around here: Javier Bassino (Izzyrock), Some dude from The Shrink and Felipe-X as far as I know.

Thanks a lot for your words. Gotta meet someday for some geeky sound chatting. Puta que es raro hablar en ingles con un chileno :lol:

Javier's stuff is amazing, I loved the Ibanez Army mix he did. Is good to know Chile has quality sound engineers here in this very forum.
Any Sneap Forum discount on Timeline Symmetry? :-D (la típica del chileno XD)
