So earlier yesterday me and a buddy were cruising the pawn shop scene and i look around and on the top shelf what do i find???

A SWEET PAIR OF NS10s hahaha

so i get the lady and ask for the price cause no way right?

she said--- 399

my reply was--for both??

her--yup

SSSSOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

Thats right a pair of ns10 for 400

sweet sweet day just thought i would share lol

yeap i found a similar deal in a pawn shop last week, found a Marshall jmp-1 sitting on a shelf underneath other rack crap with a $399 sticker, not bad but then someone told me all musical instruments and equipment are 30% off. so total was just under $300.

didnt have the cash right then, but i put it on layaway and im picking it up next week.

I got lucky on ebay a while back and got a pair of NS-10's, a few NOS NS-10 speakers, and an extra set of crossovers for under $300....

Just gotta get em when there are like 50 sets on ebay, they go cheap.

Not sure I follow your reasoning there Loren.
You saying NS 10's are no good for monitoring ? Which Yamaha's should we be looking out for?
I'm used to seeing that logo at almost every studio and I really need to get some dedicated monitors at some point so just asking.

You know I have heard NS-10 monitors and I can say hands down they wouldn't be my first choice and for what they do wouldn't auratones be just as good?

What I'm saying is NS-10 monitors sound like shit so why not get a set of monitors that are designed to sound like shit.

well even if i dont like them i can still get double the cash for them

and as far sounding like shit?? They are industry standard monitors
So My friend i believe they are made to do so.
Every monitor you look at has a flat response (to sound like crap) most sound clearer and/or louder then others just depends on personal choice really.. But as they sayin goes if your mix sounds good on NS10's its gonna sound good anywhere

Im not saying they are the best out there but they are used in countless studios in search of the finest sounding mix

You will like them, they just take a little getting used too. I listen to everything on mine now, and I suppose since a lot of commercial music is mixed or at least referenced on them, I'm hearing it how it was supposed to sound:kickass:

Oh yeah, just make sure you have a sub, or at least something else to check your low end on, I can't even hear bass drops or things in that range on my NS10s

Dude, they're industry standard monitors precisely because they're not even in the least bit flat, rather they hype the mids like crazy so you have to work to get them sounding good - but since they're one of the most difficult frequencies to get right in a mix, it's pretty much like putting them under a microscope. Read and learn, but I know I personally would never want them as my only monitors!

I heard them next to Genelec 8050s (you know though I'm only sort of sure that was the model, they were normal looking 8" genelec speakers, unlike the models they are putting out today).

I'm telling you I wouldn't want to mix on those alone.

Pretty much for the reason Audiophile and Marcus put down.

My comparison to the auratones wasn't that serious as I'm sure the auratones sound even worse .

But it seems most studios that have a pair of these that I have seen are using them for 1 reason: to make sure there mix sounds good on shitty sounding speakers.

So Does that mean we should be mixing with generic hi fi speakers ? I suppose that makes sense really .
The other thing that I was wondering about is the fact that most music is listened to through Ipod ear phones these days perhaps we should be mixing with those

Testing your mixes though consumer level products is a good idea... in fact, most people here do that... you get to a point, though, where you don't need to do that because you know your monitors so well...
