My current favorite metal bands are as follows:

• Bal-Sagoth
• Blind Guardian
• Death
• Dimmu Borgir
• Dragonforce
• Metal Church
• Nightwish
• Summoning
• Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force

As you can see, I have diverse taste.. but I mostly prefer power/symphonic metal.

No, it's because(if your read on some forums here in UM) Opeth and COB are some of the most popular bands in metal today and they get loathed and mocked for various reasons.

No offense, but that's not a diverse taste, that's just liking heavey metal. There's more to music that metal.
