I have to pay $680 to get my wisdom teeth removed.

just hope your teeth aren't impacted into the jawbone...if they pull them and the roots break off then they have to go in with surgery.

save your teeth and send them to Mia for her tooth collection.

note her cool teeth bracelet :)

That means they grew out straight though, not at an angle. You're lucky because you have a long jaw line. I won't say anything about deep throating though, just 'cos I'm a gentleman.

$280 copayment + $400 for anesthetics, which isn't covered under my insurance. What the fuck is the point of having fucking dental insurance!?!?!?

Somebody give me some twine and a bank vault, this'll only hurt for a minute...

I'll do it for $30
so long as I can keep them

I have a couple of my own teeth in a drawer here

I kept biting the inside of my cheeks. (The ones in my mouth).

I had my wisdom teeth out awhile back after putting it off for a couple 12 years. They were all impacted. One tried very meekly to make an appearance and created a tiny hole down into my jaw that I was not aware of. When I had to do chemo it got infected and tried to take me out. I resolved that I would do something about it one day. So five years later I got around to it. Then I got dry socket which was one of the most excruciating things ever and made me want to punch my jaw off.

Did you ever get yours out NAD?

I never needed them to be taken out. But seriously, WTF is the point of having dental insurance, like NAD said, if they don;t cover this shit? It makes absolutely NO sense. I'm fucking dumbfounded!!! THAT'S BULLSHIT!

lol...a year after this post, I had mine removed and it was an experience. They close to my sinuses so I had holes in my mouth into my sinuses and could do this weird breathing thing with my mouth closed. The ancient dentist was too weak to just pull ‘em so he cut them in quarters and, as a result, a few teeth chips were floating around in my sinuses which fucked me all up. I had to have oral surgery to remove them and finish the jorb.

This thread is pretty horrifying.

I was referred to have one pulled out a couple of years ago, then I was told it wasn't bad enough. I'd rather have had it pulled tbh as it drives me crazy getting food stuck all the time. Cause me no pain though.

My bottom ones were impacted and heading toward collision with the roots of other teeth. Got them all out at once, so it was a combo of pulling the top and surgically digging the bottom. I was sedated but absolutely awake for it all. I can still feel the scar tissue where they went through the inside of my cheek for one of them. What weirded me out most were the tiny shards of bone that would push through my gums for months afterwards (better than having them floating in my sinuses like Ken, oooof).

Oh, and my surgeon warned me that I could have numbness in my bottom lip for up to 6 months due to the nerve damage from surgery. The older you are, the more likely. I was nearly 30 at the time and yep, had a tingly bottom lip for exactly 6 months.

Had to pay about $500 out of pocket. Then my medical insurance and dental insurance squabbled for months over who was covering what. Fun stuff.

Yeah I got mine out after this, and as soon as they woke me up I jumped out of the seat to drive home. "Sir, you have to sit down." I was a big fat fuck at the time and no drug could stop me, dammit. I sat down and my parents took me home.

I got my other two out 10 years later and when I got out of the coma I asked my wife to take photos of me, and then I waved at everyone in the waiting room as they wheeled me to the car. I thought I was the Pope in my own special parade.

15 years ago my ex had her top wisdom teeth removed. I walked her home and at some point she bent down and started dripping a stream of blood on the sidewalk. Passers-by were horrified haha*

* so was I

Huh, the $680 doesn't sound that bad.

At the beginning of 2020, I decided to take better care of my teeth after not going to a dentist for 15+ years. Surprisingly they still look fine and white, but I knew that there was probably something horrible going on. I go to the dentist and they say I need 8-10 cavities filled but other than that I should be alright (lol). Two of the cavities are very bad and should be filled immediately. So i have the bad ones filled and all of a sudden its March/April and everything shuts down due to Covid-19. Dentists are not allowed to practice unless it's a severe emergency and most offices are closed indefinitely either way. "Glad i got that out of the way", I said.

I wake up one day and swish my tongue around my mouth. It feels like a small piece of food is stuck between my gum and my tooth. I try to no avail to dislodge it, and eventually grab a flashlight. I shine the light up through the tooth (this is one of the bad ones with the huge filling) and I can clearly see that the tooth is cracked around the entire perimeter very close to the gum line. What I was feeling with my tongue was the crack. A couple days go by and it starts to hurt like a MOTHERFUCKER. I have been trying to contact my dentist for emergency service and they aren't even calling back. I try for 4 days straight and eventually get someone at a third-party call center who says they'll hook me up with the dentist. Awesome. So they call me back and say "Sure, we can get you an appointment. The doctor is in a different state and they don't accept insurance.". Okay, so fuck that.

My wife starts calling around and if anyone even answers the phone, they say that they legally cannot accept a new patient. She calls a dentist we used to see about an hour from home and the lady shows some sympathy. Says she'll diagnose the problem but legally can't do any work. I go in, and she says that the dentist who filled the tooth was essentially guilty of malpractice. Long story shortened, she pretty much flicks the tooth and it just falls out of my mouth. She prescribes some antibiotics for the pain/infection (it helps) and they're able to do a root canal and build support for a permanent crown through 6 appointments and $2000 out of pocket (way more if you count what insurance covered). They could only do small amounts of work each time because they were unable to purchase PPE or any of the required supplies. It was fucking wild. Moral of the story: take care of your teeth and hope that they dont get fucked up during a national lock down.
