I posted in another thread about headphones for mixing about these but I think they deserve a thread of their own.
I have AT m50s too and they are very good but also very flattering.
They remind me of big studio main monitors that you crank to impress the client.
I wanted a small flat folding pair of cans for leaving in my laptop bag to bring everywhere and got a pair of Sony MDR-V55 because they were discounted on amazon and get very good reviews.
They have shocked me at how revealing they are for imbalances and frequency problems.
They are so revealing of mids in the 200-1k area.
I would liken them to a headphone version of NS10 monitors.
You have to work hard to get the mix sounding really good on them. Any other headphones I have used, including the M50s tend to flatter a mix making it sound better than it is.
Between these and my Focal Twins I am sorted.
I love the Sonys so much and have become so reliant on them that I have a second pair still in the box in case the first ones pack in or get lost etc.
They are "on ear" closed so not 100% comfortable for long periods but are fine for regularly checking the mix.
Pretty cheap too.
